View Full Version : A few questions about multiplayer

Hi, I'm very interested in this game but for the multiplayer not single player. I enjoy the excitment of going up against another human not knowing what crazy strat he will come up with! :D

Anyway, I would like to know a few things about the units and the online service

1) How powerful are archers? Can they go up against melle units without a meatshield or are they just support units for your melle army?

2) When I log online how will the service find me an opponent? Will I just click search and the service finds me an opponent and picks a map at random or do I have to find someone from a chat room and we agree to start a game and on what map to play?

3) Are each cultures in this game different in more than just a few unique units? For example Byzantines cavalry is 10% cheaper than the rest while English archers have 10% more attack etc.

4) Will the game be recorded so you can watch it again and learn from your mistakes or copy someone elses strat?

5) Will the game be more focus on military with little to do with economy?

6) How long will the average 1 on 1 game take?

Well I hope most of my questions are relevant with the game!

I'm not the best at this as there are many others that can answer better than I can, but I will try.

1) As far as absolute power I don't think anybody knows this yet. As far as needing "meat shields" yes they will because they do have a finite amount of arrows per battle and because their arrows kill indiscriminately I don't see people using them without proper forethought. I would also think that they would die fairly easily to any other kind of unit other than siege equipment.

2) Not sure about that maybe somebody else could help you with that.

3) I don't think that "cultures" give you the benefits per se, but rather the Knight or Lord who you have will grant such advantages.

4) I don't think so and I like it that way. I got tired of people in AoK not trying to figure out something on their own and watch a game and implement your strategy by merely watching.

5) I think it will focus more on military than economy, but both bare entwined so as to forget one would be a deathblow to the other.

6) As of now there is really no way to gauge it and even after release it will still be hard to gauge because people's ability to maximize certain strategies to "rush" an opposing player will dictate a lot and is usually far past the developers scope of realization.

Thanks for the replys guys ;)

I added my ESO nick just to see if there are other AOM players interested in this game. Anyway I hope for a fast paced and agrressive game online and please try to make it hard for people to make hacks.

I don't play AoM but i used to play AoK and I was fairly good at it. I was in Hawk clan now known as GX and at the time I quit my rating was 2000+ I had like 60 wins and 6 losses. Aok got to be too intense and if I lost I would get so many messages by people saying "you lost? how?" so I quit.
