View Full Version : Make your own vassals
I voted: Yes, I want to make vassals by myself! - because i think this give me more options i.e. as i understand it, it will then be possible to decide whether to annex or simply make the newly conquered territory a satellite state - i prefer as many options as i can possibly get ;)
sorry but whats a vassal?

I know it from another game. There you have the possibility to make vassals according to the relations you have to that country. When the relation is very good and you are even bigger than you can ask the other country to become your vassal, that means: The vassal state has to pay half of its income to the Ruler-State, is also allied but doesn“t belong to the Ruler-State on the map. And you can move your Forces through the vassal State without any problems.
Another way of making Vassals is after conquering a whole country there is the opinion of "Creating Vassals" so there is a list of countries you have defeated and you have now the possibility of giving any cultures their state back, just the corelands. They will be so happy that they pay more than half of their income to you ande they are your best allies.
I think thats not that bad way...
There is also the possibility that the vassality can be cancelled by the vassal itself, but that causes sometimes civil wars and the ruler state will also be no friend any longer...

@ OSDSET
a vasal is a country that has its own gouvernment but in fact is ruled by another country. The vassal doesn“t belong to the territory of the ruler state but it had to pay taxes and was very near connected to the Ruler-State... Let“s say like Scotland to England in the past...

sorry but whats a vassal? A vassal is member of feudal system.
It is based on superiority of feudal lord/overlord (a king for example) and his vassal (f.e. a duke, a knight).
in brief: Feudal lord/overlord must protect his vassal from danger from outside. Vassal must pay some fees to his overlord or help him (if he's asked) with his soldiers. If not, the overlord has right to put him out of his land and call somebody else lord of his estates.
In kind of KoH it may be like described above by Sir Nikephorion. Vassal must pay certain part of his incomes to his overlord and in foreign policy, he's dependent on his overlord's will. But he's still half-independent, has his own army and after some time he can call independency what means fight a war against his overlord.

But we still don't know if we'll be able to forge new nations from once conquered realms...

That would make the game more interesting on my opinion, because when you have conquered almost whole of Europe and you want more let“s say action, then you could give the occupied territories back and maybe they would cancel vassalation and you have the possibility of defeating them again...

Drive the Magyars out, divide the teritory and create a huge Slavic Empire from Bohemia and Slovakia in North to Croatia and Bosnia in South. :D

Do that, but nevertheless everyone of you will end under the rule of the HRE... And I“m the emporer...:p

Bah the emperor of HRE never actually had a true power. HRE was more like a confederation than anything.

I always wanted to make this explanation:
The HRE was something like the EU. But only at it's best times...
But it's up to the player to unite the HRE and make it a force to be reckoned with ;) .
Angryminer
HRE really WAS big power, but how the time went, the power was lower and lower. In the times of Frederick Barbarossa, it was far more than some confederation it become in 13th century during fights aggainst Philippe of Swabia, Otto von Braunschweig and Frederick II. in 1196-1212, and especially during interregnum in 1250-1273.
during 13th century, how France was becoming stronger and more centralized, in HRE happened oppisite.

It won't be possible in KoH, I am afraid there was no time left to make it properly.

I want the ability to make a nation that i defeat completely under my direct control. But if I for example destroy someone's army, take one province or something alike, vassalage would be a good feature.
