View Full Version : [en] 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin Dies at 44
BRISBANE, Australia -- Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.
Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.
"He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time.

I used to watch his show in the discovery channel.
R.I.P Steve
 most People who know what Dangerous Things they do, died by simple failures, he's another one.
I got so sad hearing this news this morning  Always loved his enthusiasm he has in his series, and not to mention his passion for the wildlife, it's a real tragedy
He will be missed, that's for sure.

It is sad that he died. I always loved to watch him work with animals. Though at times I thought he was nuts; he really did have a 6th sence with animals.
I loved his shows.
This is also bad for his family.

Yes thats true..he is leaving two kids... but he was kind of crazy..feeding that aligator, while holding his new born baby dropped his reputation a lot :nono: I was wondering, when he would get seriuosly injured, while doing his filming..but that he would die, while filming....thats sad. I liked to watch the show, but always got that: man you are really, really crazy-feeling...

I think people just blow that up more then necessary, imo I think he had control over it, more then we could know. he's so familiar with that environment, and I don't think he would have done that if he'd known it was a risk at all. but that's just my 2 cents.
still can't believe he died
And now they are saying they have his death filmed. Do you think it will be released? I don't want to see it.

probably and appearantly it was his wish. if he was killed and it was caught on tape, he would wanted it to be aired.
And his wife want to hold on to his wish, so I wouldn't be surprised.
I know its completely off-topic and might get locked, but the man was a legend and deserves a post.
As you should all know by now, Steve Irwin "The Crocodile Hunter" was killed by a stingray barb in the chest at the Batt reef. The news sent many people into mourning.
He was only 44-years old at death (1962-2006) but in his life, achieved his goal of teaching the world that unlovable animals can be loved. His passion for wildlife was unmatched by most.
His Father has turned down the State Funeral, as he wishes Steve to be remembered as a normal bloke. Wise decision if you ask me.
He died leaving behind his wife Terri, and his 2 children, Bindi (8) and Bob (3), which is very upsetting.
Please don't lock this thread, Steve was a great man and deserves a thread dedicated to him. He was a great, great man, and an idol to me and others.
R.I.P Steve-O, you're still alive in our hearts

I too agree with you but he died doing what he loved to do. His greatest fear was getting killed by a croc not because he would die but because people would say "I knew the croc would get him."
