Supposedly EB Games will be selling it when it is released, I will check with the one 19 miles from me and see if I can pre-order/reserve it!

There's no US pre-order
If you go to the web site for EB Games, go to PC games and then click on the "Coming Soon" menu you can pre-order 1701. The site indicates the release date is 11/03/06 and the cost is $39.99.
I've already ordered it.

I think Paraworld was also $40.
I think Paraworld was also $40. Do we get some special deals as an appolgy for the Holocaust or what?
I vote this as the stupidest comment I've seen on these boards yet.
It had some stiff competition from your comments directed at Peoples Republic of China in the warfare thread too.

Woohoo! 1 vote! How's my competition.
Everyone, please vote for my post to be stupidest comment on these boards!
But anyway, why are the games going down to $40? With consoles it seems game prices are going up.
No idea, but I'm not complaining
I think its a good approach, it's easier to justify a purchase at this price point so they'll likely sell a few more units. Maybe a strategy to penetrate the NA market a little more.
...and I've not seen any competition for you yet - maybe if I could read german there would be a few more candidates, there just aren't enough members on the english boards
AoE III is still right at $50.00 and I haven't bought it yet! If it were $39.99 it would be on my PC already! So it could be that they think they can sell more copies that way. A lot of sales at a moderate profit is much more profitable than meager sales at a high profit!

There's plenty of games like AoE3 though. There isn't really anything like Anno (though I could understand Paraworld) out there, it would be perfectly reasonable for them to charge $50.

I haven't either and not at that price...:silly:

But the last Anno was not very popular in the US either, it needs to be affordable to grab backsome of the US market.
