Will there be a windowed mode?

Will there be a windowed mode in 1701, please? (that is, play in a window instead of full-screen).

Alt+enter didn't do it for the demo, and i don't know any german, so i couldn't tell if any of the graphics options were windowed mode.

I haven't heard windowed mode mentioned anywhere! As far as I know no previous Anno has had a windowed mode, I don't expect this one to either, but maybe someone else knows something.

well, i've seen other games go from only full-screen to having a windowed mode. i've even seen hacks for games that would make them run in windowed mobe by changing one bit in the executable. the latter is kind of a yucky situation. i assume windowed mode or not is something that is enabled with directX, but maybe there are some wrinkles to work out when you do.

it certainly would be a wonderful feature!

(as much as i hate to say it, one of the biggest reasons i like windowed mode in games like this is so that i can see the clock on my pc and don't play for four hours too long! :eek: )

In Diablo 2 and Anarchy Online (MMO) really practical - especially when a friend couldn't connect to the game.

alt-tabbing is okay, but 1) it takes time to jump between graphics settings, and 2) the windows taskbar is messed up for a few moments after coming out of full-screen mode. sometimes, i also just want to be able to see other windows at the same.

minimizing the game to the taskbar also pauses the game; sometimes, i just want to briefly tab out for something without pausing the game.

Well - i don't see the point in disavowing additional options (really annoying :angry: ).
If somebody wants to minimize the game, why tha makers can't add a hot key.

Nobody tells you to use alt+tab! I'm using it even I've to wait when graphic refreshes.


For me EOT and I'm waiting just for an answer relating to minimize-option availability!

Open the Engine.ini File which lies in the installation folder of the Anno1701 Demo.

Search the Entry <ScreenFormat>0</> and replace it with <ScreenFormat>1</>.

Of course, your ingame resolution should be smaller than your desktop resolution.

hovering the mouse at the edge of the window in windowed mode would be the corresponsing thing (doesn't seem to work here, though). i seem to recall that being the metaphor in some other games with "scroll when the mouse is at the edge of the screen" functionality.

Afterall you are not going to have to translate German when you have the full game, I mean I hope you are waiting a week on the English version before buying the full game.

I've tested that windowed mode only one time.
It was sort of weird for me. I was missing the feeling to be a part of that world :scratch:

I am sorry, I thought they were offering that as an argument for windowed mode to be included in the game.

As far as translating anything from the demo, I turned off the information boxes and just play the game, build and do my own thing. As far as understanding the traders quests and what the AI players are saying to me, I will wait for the English demo to expand my gameplay.
