I just wanted to say, as someone new to Anno, I think you guys did a very good job on the tutorial.

Though I'd also like too add (because I don't want to make a new thread) that in the continueous game, I'm having some graphical problems. The Fog of war is in stripes throughout the whole screen (or all of the screen that should be covered by fog of war) with water being the background. Not only is this annoying but it shows where islands are because you can see the water washing (even if you can't see the actual shore) And another graphical bug, when I quit the game, I have a blue tint to the screen. When I restart the game the tint goes away though.

And my questions are:

Do I benefit from connecting buildings that don't require roads to roads in any way? Such as village centers and houses?

How do I accecpt the trade missions of the free trader?

How do I get people to like me? I donated them money and they just got madder.

Playing a new game, I am now getting a bug I didn't have before. The sea gulls are moving up the screen, so they become very large. Sorry that's the best I can explain it. And I am also having problems with the game playing every 3rd second or so 4 times.

Load on your ship, what he is asking for.
Sail near to his warehouse.
Wait for the trader talking to you.
Klick the green button.
Klick on the product you want to have.
KLick the green button again.
See into your ship :go:

Bug? No :nono:
The gulls become very large when you zoom in.
It's like you're looking through a binocular

What kind of problems do you have??

What is your video card, maybe you have your graphics set higher than your card can handle.

I set on max settings with a 7800GT. Here's the screenshot of what I'm talking about the gulls becoming very large: http://img317.imageshack.us/img317/9403/iouieh1.jpg

Any word on the repeating seconds part?

That screenshot appears to me that the gulls are just flying high in the air near your camera position.

I am not sure what you are talking about on the repeating seconds!

When playing, every 3rd second is repeated 3 times. Things like the settlers move back to where they were a second ago, they move up, back to where they were, move up, and back to where they were, and I get 3 seconds of non repeated gameplay. (this only happened in 1 out of 4 games I played though, same as those sea gulls)

Oh and on the thing about the connecting roads, do I benefit from connecting buildings like houses to roads? Or is it just a waste of space?

Could be the high graphics setting causing problems.

I have not tested this to see, In 1602 you had to have road connections for the fireman and the doctor to get to the houses. In 1503 they would travel through the yards of the homes to get were they needed to go, so a street connection was not needed, but I haven't tested this out in 1701 yet.

Do I benefit from connecting buildings that don't require roads to roads in any way? Such as village centers and houses?

I'd be instersted to know a definitive answer on this as well. I have briefly examined the AI's cities, and they seem to me to build in very much the same fashion as they used to build in the predecessor games that is they build cities that are layed out in grid fashion with roads around their houses. I've only looked a couple times but from memory I remember the AI building in this fashion, 4 houses surounded by roads.

This would lead me to believe that there is a benefit to building like this but Im really not certain. However since the resource buildings require roads, it may just be that the AI is programmed to build like this so that there is always a shortest route to get to wherever the cartpushers need to get to. So it may be the most efficient way of building for the AI, and am interested to know if this would also be considered the most efficient way for a real human player to build as well.

Thanks

Well, there are reasons to build roads around houses- so that doctors and firefighters can move easily and quickly, and so that you -in case of need- can move around troops as you wish.

Personally I build them in groups of 6 around the towncenter (and groups of 4 in the corners).

firemen and doctor need roads to reach the houses...houses not connected to a road system can not be reachd by them..

Are you sure about that Moryarity? In 1602, that was true. In 1503, the road was not necessary. Has anyone tested it in 1701 yet to see?

I'm not Moryarity, but I'm absolutely sure about that!!

The building needs a Street connection to the Houses they are supposed to protect. (http://www.anno1701.com/launch/index.php?lg=en&l1=aufbau&l2=siedler&l3=gebaeude&l4=feuerwache)

I played the demo several times and never seen the seagulls fly that high, I honestly think thats a bug, but no idea from what, demo or something else on your comp.

I think I found the problem with the repeating seconds and the high flying sea gulls. If you are running another program that's connected to the internet you will have that, otherwise these shouldn't happen (as far as I know). Hopefully the guys at sunflowers can test and fix this.
