Undoubtably this is mentioned somewhere... but i can't find where..

To connect via demo theres 3 routes. The two most important for Direct IP and Internet. Setting up a Direct IP game seems to be done by connecting to the internet gamespy, making game and then giving out your ip so people can direct connect to you.

To connect to gamespy...

The simplest way...

Install demo, at option to enable multiplayer, click yes. Then go into your firewall and make sure anno 1701 demo is enabled and able to connect to the net. Check it can act as a server and enable that as well, or you won't be able to host, this should be listed under program control in your firewall settings.

Then open your gamespy account, make sure all details are correct for login, you'll need your gamespy login name, email address and password.

Trying to create a new account via the game seems to cause problems, mostly at the gamespy end as it passes you around its own website like a hotcake at a starvin man's convention...

Then just go into the game, mp games, internet, input data as requested and login. You'll probably be listed as Annoholic or something, as it uses your profile name ingame. So goto options ingame and create a new profile so people will know you.

I know this is all obvious stuff, but if i read something like this a few days ago, it'd not have taken me a few days to get it all sorted.

Also turn down your options ingame, music and specs as it appears to lag the other players increasing their ping x2-x3 don't know why, possibly unoptomised graphics or other reason. I connected to people with a 90 ms ping and got feedback ingame that they were at 300-500 ms ping, which is when it starts to get unplayable.
