I've been playing the easy mode and gaining the bronze medals. I think the way I play will only work on easy mode, since I don't build any roads and just pack the houses together in rows of 5.

When I play normal mode do I have to build a lot of the firehouses, and have better road access? I saw the screenshot at the sticky, but it's only a 2x6 row of houses. Also, how likely am I going to go to war on Normal/Hard mode?

Sorry for nooby question, but I wanted to be prepare. Thanks in advance.

when you use the firestation and you can better do that because sometimes there is a fire , the fire station must be connected with a raod just like the houses.:go:

I don't play on easy modfe. I have quite a lot of fires once I hit citizen level. without Firehouses entire blocks burn down. Not good. Your choice.

Well, if you do not build a fire brigade, and you are lucky, you will loose only a few houses - so it might be worth the bet.

Your people will try to fight the fire, but usually they are not very effective with that; in my games, one or more houses will be destroyed by a fire. That's why I'd recommend to build 3x2 or 4x2 house blocks, but not bigger ones.

If you switch off the fire in the options, you needn't build a firestation

Except you have a vulcan

what struck me when i played the demo of 1701 was that compared to 1602, the fireman is actually pretty efficient. in 1602 it seemed to take him way too long to get working and i found out that normally it worked better to just delete houses that were on fire and then rebuild. in 1701 however, the firefighter is very able and can usually put out a fire before it spreads too badly.

Firehouses are not needed. They take up alot of space and do little to put out fires. The fireman themselves are too slow and after every house they must return to the station to refill.

When a fire breaks out just destroy all surrounding buildings.

Firehouses are not needed.

You've obviously never colonised an island with a volcano in the middle!!

My fireman in 1602 is very efficient! Every fire is put out before it spreads. I usually build the firestation in the center of the town, that way the poor guy doesn't have to push that cart all the way through town.
I really try to avoid tearing down houses - especially if they are on a higher level.

Otherwise, the doctor or the fire brigade cannot reach the house.

Yeah... If an aristocrat's house is burning just pull it down. It only takes ten minutes for the pioneers to be aristocrats again. The fire fighter only needs one minute to solve the problem. But why have it easy...?

Anyway, you should consider that 3x3 blocks don't work any more unless you leave the spot in the middle free. A house placed there can't be reached by the fireman and the doc.

Neither could it in 1602 yet it was by far the most efficient building strategy.
