Just to be sure:
Both of the used systems have 1024 megabyte of ram installed?
Are there any active firewalls, which might influence your network connection?
Yes the one has Bitdefender, all unblocked.
other Norton, allso unblocked.
And 1 has 1024 and the other 512, games run like a charm though.
(thanx for fast reply :))

And that's the Problem.
Both systems need 1024 MB for Multiplayer because of the more intense traffic and data amount.

I was already in youre problem
I have the same problem I also get "No more room for additional players" when I try to play a lan game
And me and my friend both have more then 1024mb ram.
SO other solution?
I had that, fixed it by first exiting the game, then removing all things using virtual network adapters - OpenVPN, Hamachi.

there is one thing in my mind
enable port forwarding
but i don't know how

I'm also having this identical problem. I currently have:
Two computers connected via lan on a hub (not a router, so no router software to configure)
Two original DVDs of the game with two unique serial numbers.
Both computers running Windows XP with the firewall turned off (so no port blocking active)
Both computers have IP forwarding enabled and 1 GB of ram.
I also get "No more room for additional players" even if all three players are set available on the host machine.
Either machine can see a game started by the other, but neither machine can join a game no matter which machine is hosting. Oddly enough, I had no problem joining a multiplayer game in the demo version.

Hi @ all,
Toccatta, as you say "No problems joining Multiplayer Game", does that mean LAN or Internet??
PortForwarding is not necessary for playing in a Local Network, cause you don't leave the Network. And the fact that one machine only has 512MB RAM could make the game very slow, but does not make LAN impossible. If this was the answer, the machine with the 1024 MB had to run fine ....
DY_DEAD & Tocatta, did you have played any other game in LAN before in the same constellation??
I'll try to help:
- take a look in the FW, if the LAN-IP from the other machine is trusted (and, for Norton, YOUR own LAN-IP had to have to set in "trusted Networks"; to enable the firewall does not mean that the ports are all open)
- try to connect to the Host via "Direct Connection"; it had shown that the LAN-Connection make problems by searching the Host via the Server list (depending on the network-Code of ANNO):nono:
- make sure that you disconnect all NetworkConnections you don't need, for example TV-Card, IEEE1394 and so on.
- for Tocatta: did you have installed the IPX/SPX-Protocoll to your LAN-NetworkCard??
- DY_DEAD, disable DHCP and set the IP's for your LAN manually; if you HAVE disabled DHCP, enable it (im not :silly: , it's a funny thing; sometimes it works in the first, sometimes the second way)
Last, but not least: in some cases the MP works fine after RE-INSTALLING XP   Don't ask me why, it is a "wonder", a terrible i guess, but it helps some users in the german section of this forum.
I'm apologise for my terrible English

By "no problems joining a multiplayer game in the demo" I mean that in the demo version with the same conditions, I could play the MP game with my roommate over the LAN. This computer is very new, so I haven't really had a chance to play any other MP games in this configuration. Also, I don't have the IPX protocol installed on my system, but it wasn't installed when I played the MP 1701 demo, either.
Oh, and I did try the direct connect, but got the exact same error message. My roommate also tried to direct connect to my machine as well. Neither worked.
I'm certainly not going to re-install XP to play this game in multiplayer. If 1701 is too fragile to play with the current installation, then Sunflowers needs to make it more reliable instead of asking their customers to reinstall the OS. That's simply not an acceptable solution. Thank you for offering the idea as a suggestion on how to get MP working, but Sunflower should NOT rely on its customers to solve the problem in that manner.

Toccatta:
When you trying to connect with the full-Installation, did you see your IP on the left site (bottom of screen) ?? Or did you see "0.0.0.0:0" ???? And what is it in the Demo???
I had have this problem myself, by trying to connect via HAMACHI, and the solution was disabling my other NetworkCards (although the HAMACHI-Card and my Internet-Connection-Card).

I see my real IP address. Unfortunately, I can't answer your question about the demo version because I didn't pay attention to that part of the screen at the time. Also, I got rid of the demo when I bought the full game, so I can't go back and check without downloading the demo again.
I only have one card to connect to the LAN, so I don't really have anything else that would need to be disabled.
Hey, I just ran into the same exact problem and what fixed it was the following:
I had originally just port forwarded 31321, which was what it said to do as far as port forwarding. I had the exact problem everyone else has in this thread.
I then looked in the bottom left of the game, when hosting a server, and noted my lan ip, and the port 21701 was listed. I was like...wtf m8...
I forwarded that port, and problem fixed instantly.
Let me know how this works for all of you.

Port forwarding is an excellent way to tunnel through a firewall or router. Since my test configuration used neither firewalls nor routers, there was neither a need nor an opportunity to forward any ports.
No doubt if I wanted to play online on the internet, I would need to forward that port. I have no interest in playing online, however. I just want to play co-op with my roommate on my local area network which doesn't run through a router.
Another thing, that error message seems to be a generic error message when an error occurs joining a multiplayer server. For instance, when a friend tried to join and the port forwarding wasn't setup for that 21701 port, he got that message. When he tried to join before I had even set the server he got that message.
Hey,
I played the game mp for several houres, working well. Now i'm trying again, and i get this error "no more room for .... " . This is so frustrating. i'm sure there is nothing changed in my settings.
i hope there is a solution :( ...
Only thing that comes to mind is "Crosscable". heh.
