View Full Version : Buggy hotkeys?

I'm having a blast so far, but have come up with one major problem. Hotkeys rarely work. For example, I have to press "ESC" multiple times (dozens) to get the game menu to come up. If I alt+tab to check my e-mail or something, the game automatically pauses and it takes me at least two minutes of pressing "P" to unpause the game.

Is this.. normal?

It was doing the same thing for me in the demo. :nono:

The Alt+Tab is not really well supported. Better try to close the game to check your mails...

However, with my PC, this shortcut works fine.

It's not just with alt+tab, though. Even the ESC key alone is buggy for me. Sometimes the zoom function keys stop working, to (like F4 for zoom in). Weird!

is there a way to turn on turbo mode without having to hold down NUM+?

No...

@Daego: I have no problems with ESC or F4...

I've seen this sort of thing before with other games, perhaps you should try turning down some graphics options in the game and reduce the resolution, see if this helps...

And also my all time favourite troubleshooting tip!

Reduce sound hardware acceleration:

- Click Start then Run
- Type in dxdiag then click Ok
- On the Sound tab move the sound hardware acceleration down to basic
- Close dxdiag and try the game again.

No other game exhibits this problem, even games that are much more graphic intensive. FEAR runs at about 65fps on my system at 1600x1200 with all the details cranked up, Oblivion stays at about 58fps outdoors at 1600x1200 with full details/textures.

I'll try the sound thing....

Just thought of another thing which could cause this...

Processor priority

- Run the game
- Do a CTRL + ALT + Del and get the task manager up
- Under the processes tab, find the games executable (don't have the game yet so don't know the exact name! :bash: )
- Right click on it and go to the 'set priority' sub-menu
- If this is set higher than 'normal', put it back down to normal.
- If it is already at 'normal', you could try 'below normal' although I wouldn't take it much lower or bad things may happen...

Also, have you tried turning down the graphics options/resolution anyway? Just to see if it does make a difference or not?

I can try that, but it's not going to do anything... the rest of the game is extremely responsive. I can click the game menu button on the bottom left and the menu comes up instantly.

I even tried swapping my wireless keyboard out with my normal keyboard.

I am not sure if that will also work with the keys you mentioned, but try to reassign them in the keyboard menu.

They work some of the time, it's just a random problem. Reassigning didn't help (first thing I tried). :(
