I downloaded the 1701 A.D. demo maybe two weeks ago, and really liked the game. So I ordered it and received it yesterday. After installing it I've had a weird graphical issue where most menu windows have vertical lines crisscrossing the window, and any text in game also has some distortion.

This was never a problem in the demo version. I checked my demo installation after I installed the full version of the game and now this problem is present in the demo as well, it was DEFINITELY not there when I first downloaded the demo.

Here's a picture of what I am talking about from the demo:

After I first noticed the problem I updated my video card's drivers to the newest version and also updated DirectX, neither improved the issue.

Hey Fadex1945 and welcome "on board"!

Try to set the "Antialiasing" inside the Grafics card Options to "application defined" (or something like that).
Then it should work! :go:

Are those lines not part of the game? That shows up in my game every time a visitor comes to town. I notice in the sceenshot the smith is at the towncenter. I thought it was a part of the game to highlight the fact that you had a special visitor. Is it not?

Oh, I just thought of the lines over the Warehouse menu... :silly:
The light indeed shows up every time a Guest of Honor visits the town.

Sorry, my bad! I didn't notice those lines, those are obviously the ones they were talking about.
I saw the other lines and immediately jumped to a conclusion!

you can fix it

just take a closer look at your ATI Settings
there's a tool ... Catalyst Control Center ??

set Anisotrop Filter and Anti-Aliasing-Settings to application controlled
however it's called by ATI

rightclick anywhere on your desktop->properties

go to the last tab, hit the 'advanced' button

ATI control panel will pop up

go to the '3d' tab, and then you can set things to application controlled (or whatever its called in english versions)

Some things may be named differently, i havent updated my 3d drivers in 3 years (never needed to, so never will, im lazy)
