This is the first A.D. game I've played, so I'm still getting a hang of some of the more basic strategies.
As of now, here is how I place my first buildings (as the tutorial taught me):
1) Sail to a nice big island.
2) Place my warehouse on a wide beach.
3) Place a town center as far inland as I can.
4) Build 6 houses, 2 lumber huts and a fisherman......
Now one of the problems I'm having is when I place down that very first town center, it's not in a very optimal position. Almost half of it's "circle of influence" is intially unbuildable (due to there not being a market yet), while some portions of the circle are being taken up by the beach and lumber huts.
I realize the computer AI cheats and all, but whenever I look at their island they have the town center placed right in the middle of the island - which gives them maximum building potential.
A thought occured to me that perhaps I should be placing down an inland Market first which would enable me to place my town center much further inland. So a build order would go like:
1) Sail to island.
2) Place Warehouse on beach.
3) Build a Market inland.
4) Place a town center more inland.
5) Lumber, houses, etc....
The resources used to build a Market (before it's actually needed) would slow down my initial growth... but being able to place a town center in an optimal spot should pay off in the long run with more houses and easier infrastructure.
Thoughts?
