Hi all. I'm new here, just picked up this game a week ago and have been having a great time with it. This is my first Anno game so I apologize in advance for any stupid questions I find myself asking. :)

Anyway, I'm curious about the various grades of AI and how their behaviors differ. I've played two continuous games to independence with a mixture of easy and normal AI's and, while I've had players complain about me squatting on islands they wanted, I've never been attacked by anyone but pirates. I started a hard game to see how it differed and was promptly stomped to death by prince Igor, who I gather from the manual is overtly hostile by default. I'm kind of trying to find a balance of difficulty where the AI will attack me if I annoy it enough, but won't attack me at first glance. Does that ever happen on normal or do I need to be playing on hard? I expect the hard AI will womp me economically...

Welcome to the forum Vinraith :halloha:

Yes, igor is a "bit" strong

I've read, that when he is 150% stronger than you, he will attack you.
I think things like that are written down in the official book (not the manual). But i don't have it  .....till now

As far as i know, only the strong AI will attack you. But i might err.

Igor is Anno's analogue to an overly aggressive dictator (provided the player doesn't take that role). Hair trigger temper.

OK, so no Igor for the time being. Will any of the other AI's attack me? Which ones? I'd actually like an AI or two that is willing to come after me if I tick them off.

As for the easy and normal AIs they wont attack you first. You would have to land yer troops on every of their islands, fail lodge activites and such then MAYBE normal AI would be pissed off enough to attack you ( however if you have a larger army they wont attack you no matter how much you will annoy them )

As for the hard AI:

Castelli is the most "peacefull" one, he will get angry over some islands you are already on ( but only if you blocked all beaches with market buildings so that he cant make a warehouse ) and if his "piss-o-metter" (lol) will go to red he will attack you, unless your army is way larger than his.
He will get pissed off when you fail lodge activity too ofcourse and if you ally yourself with someone he is warring at the moment
You can rise reputation with him by doing free trader asignments, advancing to a next civ level, paying him tribute (fails most of the time), by a lodge activity (ingratate), by trading with him once you can(he likes jewlery)

Igor will HATE you for the same reasons that apply to Castelli.
He doesnt give a rats *** about free trader assignments, he will congratuale you when you advance to the 2nd and 3rd civ level and he will get pissed off when you advance to the 4th and 5th civ level.
Once you manage to trade with him, sell him some booze, it will rise yer rep alittle more than from selling other goods.

Madame Nadasky, biggest b**** of them all lol.
She will get angry over everyting, even when you will settle an island
Everything else same as Igor. She likes cannons so sell her cannons if you manage to trade with her.

That's exactly what I wanted to know, thanks. If that's the way of things I hope that, in a future expansion or patch, they add some more "hard" opponents. It seems like, very soon here, they're going to be the only opponents worth playing with. That's a shame, too, because all the characters are very well done as far as voice work and differing behaviors.
