1701 AD $75
Shipping, handling & taxes $41.50
New 24" widescren $570 (before taxes)
Super gaming PC (Dell XPS700 with dual 3.2, GeForce7950 with 1GB, 160GB 10,000rpm Raid, 4GB 667MHz RAM) $5,5899 (before taxes, but free shipping:lol: )
Nailing the Game DVD on the wall since it crashes my PC (overheating) - priceless. :bash:

Please don't tell me to update drivers etc, the system still smells from the production, I just unpacked it this morning. There are also enough fans in the case (5).

Note: all prices are in CAD, not U$

Question: Patch in sight?

Hey Sailorman

welcome at the forums :halloha:

Do you really think, that a brand new delivered PC has got the brand new drivers installed?
I've never known it to happen that way.

Please post your dxdiag info and let's check that out

If its overheating, then you got a problem somewhere else, it ain't the game.. Oh, and 99% of every production PC you will find has outdated DirectX updates, and old drivers.

Maybe fix the issue instead of slamming the game?

Yeah, don't say there are enough fans in the case. I have a similar rig and the same graphics card. I bought an additional 4 fans for interior airflow, two PCI slot exhaust fans, and a water cooler for my CPU. No overheating for me.

I don't know where you get your computer, Futureshop, WallMart?
Mine get shipped to an authorized dealer who installs software, additional fans and ensures all is A1. I pay a premium price and get premium service.

Obviously, you can't see the (dark) humour in my post. Did you even read the last line? IMHO, 120 degree temperatures (as posted by mods) in the graphics card is too high, and I don't know, and don't care, what the cut-off settings in mine are, I leave that to the pros. We have an understanding, I don't stick my fingers into computers and they stay out of my line of work. And yes, my chip is liquid cooled.

Browsing through the forum - I do speak German - demonstrated to me that there is a problem with certain processors and graphic cards. So, eat your words, wiseguy.

My question remains, is there a patch on the horizon?

Welcome to the forum Sailorman! :hello:

If you had posted this:

in your first post, you could have avoided the responses you didn't appreciate!

Thank you Dobber.

I hope you guys can understand if one is frustrated that a real high-end PC is unable to let one enjoy the game. And since you are from the west side of the pond you might understand the humour behind the Mastercard quote:biggrin:

I didn't post the tech part since it never occured to me that a brand-new, quality, PC needs maintenace right out of the box. Mine, due to how I get them never had any flaws.

Yes I do understand the Mastercard quote, I thought that was quite ingenious! Really enjoyed it!

I just hope you can understand the responses you got with folks not knowing the manner in which you purchase your machines! They were just trying to be helpful and didn't know. "Now they know the rest of the story! Good-day!"
And I hope with you being on the same side of the pond as me you can appreciate Paul Harvey!

Dell is notorious for using cheap and small fans and ducts in their pcs - unless you like the warranty i would open the casse, rip out all the cheap fans and plastic ducts and replace them with a couple of decent 92 and 120mm fans (if the case even has room for that O.o)

Also try running prime95 or any other stress testing program - if that also causes the pc to overheat and crash i would simply call dell and tell them they delivered a faulty product - since its supposed to be able to run at load.

if its coolness you want, without too much hassle, get some copper cooling fans from eg zalman. One on my gpu (went from 80 degrees centigrate stressed to 40) and one on my cpu (went from 60-70 stressed to 30-40 also).

Furthermore, as has already been said, a computer should be able to run at 100% stressed for days at a row. If it cant manage, its a faulty computer.

We cannot discuss the quality of your PC or your computer dealer here. All we can do is trying to help you - but if you like us to do that, we need your dxdiag. Alternatively, you may contact your authorized dealer to fix the problem.

@Sailorman, I have found that there is no patch for overheating, the problems the game is having with certain graphics cards and processors, that is being addressed from the game standpoint is not an overheating issue. You have mentioned the chip is liquid cooled. You have also mentioned you leave the inside of your computer to the pro's. I suggest you carry it back to the pro's and ask them to give you more cooling or else post your dxdiag here for the tech's to look at and see if there is something system related causing the overtaxing of your machine.

Edit:
RoadRunner typed faster than me!

There is no way a patch on a game would fix a problem with comp overheating. Have you tried different graphic settings? Try putting them in midium or low and see if the comp overheats.
The only way to stop overheating is having good cooling in your comp. That doesn't just mean having fans and liquid running inside the comp but plainty of holes for the air to go in and out, specially with such a system like yours. Also maintain your comp in an open space where air can flow through it.
By the way, why 4gib of ram? Is a waste and only makes your system work harder and slower.
So anyways can you post a picture of your case and dxdiag.
To show dxdiag go to start, the Run. Then type dxdiag and hit ok. Once it finish loading take a screenshot of it and post it here.

Edit: oh just saw your comp is from Dell.. There is the problem lol. Dell uses old hardware, sometimes even used ones. So i suggest you go to their customer service and tell them the comp is overheating too much. Good luck, you will need it with Dell's "great" customer service.

Richard:
rest assured, all the hardware in my PC is brand new.

No need to bash Dell. I am not a customer of Dell but of the computer shop who happens to be an autorized Dell dealer but sells other systems too. I don't care whom they get to build my systems, I deal with them and support/warranty work comes from them, not the manufacturer. (If they want to continue to have my company as a regular customer they bettter remember that.)

I called him at 0855, soemone was at my place at 0920 to bring a loaner and take back the new PC. I just got a call from them. I was mistaken, my bad, it's not an overheating problem but a conflict. When I read the white writing "your computer is being shut down to prevent damage...." I assumed overheating. The shop installed a known "graphic-eating" game and played on it for about an hour while runing diagnostics. I was assured that no component exceeded 52øC. Their next move is to exchange one of the DVD-RW drives with another brand. I directed them to this forum to find a whitelisted one.

In the meantime I play on a 3.2, 2GB 555 RAM with a GeForce 5000 series with 256MB. It's painfully slow with anything but low settings, but it plays. Since I have an important appointment - with 1701 - I am unable to take calls or even go into the office.

Glad you got the problem fixed, or well the guys that sold you the system did.

Don't get too busy with your appointment thu.

In the end I got an external LG DVD as a freebe. Once I took my PC back it didn't crash but I still can't play it. On a top-end system I get the dreaded eggtimer over 10,000 citizens.
This is absolute crapola but, as the mods dictate, we're not allowed to make our disgust known in the patch discussion thread.
I know it's a sore issue, but SF should be ashamed to put out another disaster after 1503 and then to put the blame on nVidia. Shame on you.
From a pst and never-again customer.

My parthian shot to LadyH's ill-received comment

Do you really think, that a brand new delivered PC has got the brand new drivers installed?
I've never known it to happen that way.
I don't buy at Medimarket or Aldi, I buy quality, obviously you don't since you never got a "ready" system. During the last 15 years of buying PCs I never knew of any system that was not 100% up-to-date upon delivery.

My techy told me that it's very important for performance to match the right components. I don't think a reputable store would match 333MHz RAM with a 7950Gx2:sad:

Too bad I didn't see your 1st post sooner; great one

It is certainly too bad that Sailorman has such a short fuze.

.................................................. ............................................

One also wonders why he was so reluctant to post his DxDiag here so we could gaze in awe at the footprints of his powerful machine.

.................................................. ..

I was also wondering why he would not post his dxdiag! He would not even give anyone opportunity to help him! He came on here slamming the game, asking that solutions be forthcoming, yet gave nobody anything to work with to help him out! And then takes an exit without even waiting on the first patch to be finished, a patch which may or may not help with his issues, but still he didn't wait to see!
With his lack of patience, how does he succeed in the business world?
