If thats the case you may be able to get away with Rodoom's idea but with the sound. Install a cheap sound card then disable the onboard, hopefully freeing that ram to the system.

I don't think the missing RAM is used by onboard sound.
My MSI P965 Neo has got onboard 5.1 sound and there's no RAM missing.
I think it's used by the video card.

I would normally agree that the missing ram is going to video, but 8 megs sounds a little fishy to me. that would mean the video has 56 megs of its own plus 8 from the system? It just seems weird to me.

Integrated video says 64MB of ram, I'll bet the missing 8 megs is dedicated to the integrated sound card.

Onboard sound doesn't use ram, AC97 has internal allocations within. Onboard sound is actually RECOMMENDED as more stable, and the CPU usage from it is nearly un measurable.

Creative has the worst drivers ever.
