I'm upgrading to

CPU AMD 64X2 4600 processor
MB MSIK9N Neo 3 F 7260-010 AM2
HD Seagate 250 GB SATA2
VC ATI X1950XTX 512 PCI-E
RAM 2X 1 GIG sticks of Crucial DDR2 667
PS 600 watt
CPU different colling fan is an Artic Freezer 64
OS will stay at Win XP Home for now and I will try Norton's 2007 AV

Anyone know if this will be a problem with regard to playing 1701 AD I have been trying to find people that have similar systems or close that have played without proplems:

Can anyone advise:confused:

Nice, but why don't you buy a Core 2 Duo PC ?
With a little overclocking you will have a more powerful configuration.

Maybe forget Norton... :dwink:

I agree, although I've been a loyal AMD customer for years now, the new Intel Core 2 Duo's wipe the floor with the current AMDs. No overclocking needed.

Definitely drop Norton, they are notorious for causing more issues than they solve/prevent. You couldn't pay me to install Norton on any machine I use.

Even as is though, I'd suspect that the above system would have no trouble running 1701.

I've got a socket 939 motherboard, and i did not want to change everything (mobo and memory), so i upgraded to a 165 opteron processor, overclocked to 2.55 GHz.

2GB memory, and an overclocked 7900GT (530/770).

Game is playable with full options in 1280*960 (no filterings), but not as smooth as expected.

I suspect some graphical settings (water/ shadows) to claim power...

But X1950XT is a good choice i think.

Most of the reviews I checked stated very clearly that there is not enough diffenerce between the two, expecially for the games I play, and price difference to bother going with Intel duo and I have been using Intel all my life so I am going to try AMD for the first time hope it works out

I gather others have use similar systems and have had no trouble I changed the colling fan for the CPU as heard the one that comes with it falls a little short and uped my PS to 600 watts for the Vid card hope that works out

Yes, but it might be interesting.

With 667 DDR II (800 DDR II = PC 6400 would have been better but... ), mindbender may expect:

2.33 GHz with a E6300
2.66 GHz with a E6400
3.00 GHz with a E6600

And nearly all Core 2 Duo accept this increase in fsb frequency (266.66 -> 333.33 MHz) without any V_core increase.

And if you may set 400 MHz fsb, you'll touch paradise.... :go:

[Think that at equal frequency, a Core 2 Duo is 20% better than an AMD X2 processor.]

Ah, Important mindbender, buy a good power supply, only known brand, refer to tests you may find on internet, do not buy a "cheap" 600 Watts power supply without knowing its origins.

I don't know what reviews you are reading but there is a significant advantage to the Core 2 Duo's at the moment. If you have always used Intel then this is quite possibly the WORST time ever to switch and try AMD. AMD had the performance and cost advantage for years and with the Core 2 Duo's that has all changed, in both departments.

The Intels are somewhat cheaper now too. A E6400 out performs the AMD FX-62 (AMD's top chip that is also very expensive) for about one third of the cost.

Well I think I have finally gone blind and cant read another review on the net but I changed to and Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 and of course had to change the MB to MSI 945P NEO3-F as well with everything else the same. ( I think my salesperson is going to have me killed  )

One thing I wish I could find where these two CPUs were tested with games like 1701 and Ceasar 4, Blitzkgrieg Codename Panzers etc as they are the only games I like:sad:

Good choice :go:

I wouldn't worry too much about the specific games that they test. There won't be many cases (if any) where the overall better CPU will lose out to the lesser one in a specific game. That is more graphics card related most of the time.
