Just interesting to see what kind of internet connection people have on this forum.
This could maybe be a sign of their dedication also if they have an ordinary modem and click in on this forum to read and post often and for a long time.

I have a wireless network at home too, but I don't call my internet-connection wireless because of that ;) .
Perhaps someone should add 'DSL' to the poll. In Germany this type of internet-connection is extremely popular. I went with 'Cable Modem' because it's the closest thing.

2639.1 Kbps?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

This is awesome. I didn't ever knew there was such a connection for home computers so accessible.
Mine ****s: 38.3kbps... :(
Here the most common cable connection is 300kbps. If you have a +++600kbps connection in my country, it means you are quite a fortunate in the material side of the life (IF in the PC of your home), like a 2XXX kbps.

My cable company's connection speed has a maximum attainable of 3000 kbps. When I checked mine today it was 2649.4 kbps. A year ago I was on dialup with a speed of 23 kbps, imagine my bliss upon getting cable!

In Germany we have fairly cheap broadband-connections.
3mbit connections is at 25€, thats about 30$
1,5 Gbyte downstream-traffic is at 10€ then.
Together 35€, a bit over 40$ a month.
(There are other lists with more included downstream-traffic)

That's a good price if you see how much 3mbit is. You can run a whole company on that connection ;) .
You'll get the 2mbit connection at 30€ / 35$.

Here the 300kbps connection costs about US$35 aproximately R$100. Here the the minimum salary (I don't know what you call there) worth R$260. The average salary here is R$600. Quite expensive, uh?

At work (UK Univeristy on 'Super JANET' Backbone) I get different results ranging from

414.4kbps - 1398.4kbps.... Hmmm....

An average 56K modem transfers data at about 5kbps.
An average 512K broadband connection transfers at about 50kbps
My works network (100mb local) transfers upto 1000kbps (Windows updates)

Therefore comparing that to broadband the Univeristy has upto a 20,480K connection!

And that is 1 PC on a uni network.... Gutted I can't that that home! :silly:

Roobarb:
I don't know what you are trying to express in your post, but some of your numbers are wrong:
A 56k modem transfers 7 kbytes/second...
A 512k modem transfers exactly 64 kbytes/second
I hope that is helpfull.
