View Full Version : What's your card?

I've been reading a lot on these technical forums lately and it seems like most of the players have nVidia graphics cards and are disappointed with the framrates they're getting (or either the gamers with ati cards don't post enough). I have an ATI radeon 9550 (not anything spectacular). I have low framrates after I develop my colony past a certain point. I really don't think this is an ATI vs. nVidia issue, but I made this poll out of curiousity.

I usually get about 60 FPS looking over the water and it drops drastically all the way to 13 to 15 FPS looking at my island (at about medium zoom and with the town square right in the center of my screen). Yikes. And that's just at the settler level with about 500 people. After that, it gets nearly unplayable. Granted I don't have the best system, but I'm playing at the lowest possible graphics settings. (I get better framrates with games like battlefield 2 or age of pirates: CT, so this really doesn't make much sense.)

Good idea for your poll. :go:

7900GT (overclocked):

- 1280*960, full settings (level 1 for antialiasing), 17 fps on a "correct" center town.

- 800*600, low settings (no filterings), 30-35 fps in same conditions

ATI X1900XTX. With the details on high, it starts getting pretty chuggy after only a few hours, but not so much that I'd consider it unplayable. It does detract from the game, however.

6600GT
middel-high details. But textures ( don't know the translation) are middle.
1280*1024
fps -->don't know  for me enough  sometimes (really only sometimes or less than sometimes) it's a bit slow, but still very good to play :gogo:

9800xt, slightly overclocked, all high settings (1280*1024). Up untill 10.000 it is just able to be faster than a slide show

8800GTX, everything else matching components except for cheap sound card (Soundblaster Live)
1680 * 1050
all on high (default from setup)
started to lag while building (200 pioneers, no settlers)

Nvidea Geforce GO 7900 GS (256 mb)
Everything high, AA 4x, AF 16x, Vsync and Bloom on, 1400*900.
Average FPS: ~17 for a large island completely filled (7k citizens/merchants mixed).
Average FPS: ~30 for open sea.

In my eyes its as fluid as a movie (24 fps), so its acceptable :go:.

Only moving around in turbo mode isnt really smooth.

X800XT, but I can't get my "village" past a few houses... before I get CRASH --> Desktop!

Otherwise, it seems to play pretty well (framerate wise)... though I think it is a little too much demanding on the hardware. I think they could have eased up a bit on that.

I just wish they stupid software WORKED.

<thinks this is the worst game he's bought in years>
