Hi!!

This morning I bought Anno 1703 as a X-mas present for my wife. However, it will not start. After copying the files, I try to start the game from the desktop icon and get: "Unable to successfully initialise Direct3D". Even before being asked for a serial number...

I looked on this and the German forum, but none of the solutions work. My system is: Mainboard: K8N-E Deluxe with 1Gb RAM and AMD64 3000 processor. Video: MSI NX6600 GT.

I re-installed Direct X 9c from the game DVD, installed the latest chipset drivers (4.31) and latest video driver (93.71). Dxdiag test are all successful.

Please help!!

Henk (from Belgium)

Have you attempted to uninstall and reinstall the game?

Hi.

No, but IŽll try that tonight. B.t.w. I get the same error message when I want to start up 3D Mark 2003. There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with my Direct X.

When re-installing DirectX, I get the impression that not much really happens. I have looked for a good Direct X removal tool so I can install from scratch. Any suggestions??

Ciao, Henk

I have seen removal utilities, but cannot remember them at the present! Maybe someone knows, I think LadyH probably would know of a good one!

I found an utility that is supposed to remove all directx files for you, so you can make a clean install! It is here (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/DirectX-Eradicator-Download-2588.html), I have not tried it, nor have I talked to anyone who has. It looks safe enough, but it is up to you if you trust the company. :go:
