Although I did not play the online portion of the game, I used to play Stronghold several months ago, not long after it was first released. I played all the way through the single player campaign, which was lots of fun. Some of the movie scenes in between scenarios were rather adolescent/cartooinsh, however. The castle building portion of the game was fairly well developed (at least compared to the standards of that time), but the game did suffer from a lack of realism in some areas, such as macemen, swordsmen, etc. being able to single-handedly break through a castle wall within a few minutes, even without the aid of any siege equipment (some people on the game's forum even complained that the game should be renamed to "Weakhold").
For me, the funniest part of the game was the ability to launch cows from catapults, complete with the sound effect "Here comes Bessie!". The cows could be launched over a defender's castle walls, and if they landed near some enemy troops, they could spread disease and help to reduce the numbers of enemy in preparation for storming the castle. It would be nice if Knights of Honor could implement such a feature, but as far as I know, the designers are not planning to include this. It would add a touch of humor to the game, though.
I played Stronghold, but not online. I like Stronghold Crusader better, but still do not play it online either. As a matter of fact I have never done multiplayer on any game! :D
