Hi,

The serial number given to me is incorrect and does not work. I had to resort to "other" means to get a working one. After i installed the patch the serial no. didn't work, so i re-tried my original one and it still does not work...

Any suggestions?

P.s: If you want me to post my serial no. i will if it helps.

Are you absolutely sure you are reading your number correctly? If you used an improper means to get the game running, we cannot offer you any support with the game.

My suggestion is to uninstall the game, clean your registry and hard drive of any remnants of the game and do a clean install! This time get you a magnifying device to look at your serial to determine which characters are in your serial, there are many characters that can be mistaken for other characters! The Y in my serial looked very much like a V.

I magnified it and all. They should print the serials in the same way that Age of Empires do so, very clear and distinct. Shall i just post it and we all can try and decipher it?

Thanks for the help.

How can you post it if you are unsure how it reads?

Have you scanned it with a scanner or something?

If you would like to send a scan of it to me to see how I decipher it, I would be glad to help! I will send you my email via PM if you wish me to look at it!
BTW, I have 2 versions of the game, so I don't need to try to snatch your serial!

Have you tried using a magnifying glass to enlarge the characters to get a clearer view of what they are?

Not sure if this is relevent, maby i am just bableing, but what type of font is used on the searal numbers? Is it the anno-style font, or regular characters?

The font is different depending on the distributor! I have both the US and the UK versions, and each has a different font!

I will add that the manuals are different as well, the UK manual has more information!

Are you aware that the serial number is case sensitive and that it MUST be typed in as all-caps or it won't work correctly? I believe there was also something mentioned either in the instructions or on this board elsewhere that if you installed the game with the serial number typed in as lower-case, it actually took a complete uninstall/re-install in order to fix it. Also, unlike some other software installers that automatically insert the dashes or give you several small windows to type each section of the serial number so that dashes are unnecessary, in the 1701 install, you must type those in as well.

You probably already know all that, but it seemed worthwhile to eliminate those two common errors as possibilities.

Aloisius is now happily enjoying the game! At least that is what he told me via email!
