Hi moonlitcoyote,

1701 A.D. is the latest game in the Anno-series.
In english speaking countries the A.D.-series :go:

1602 was the first one (made in 1998), then cames out 1503 (in 2002) and now we have 1701 :hello:

I think it's also a very good game.
It's a bit easier than 1503. And more similar to 1602.

But you need a clearly better PC, as for 1602 or 1503

All in all:
It is an A.D.-game, so it's good

edit:
klick here to the 1701 A.D. Homepage (http://www.anno1701.de/launch/index.php?lg=en&l1=home)
But there is no snow in the game, it's only on the homepage

There should also be a trial-version you can download. If you check the Sunflowers Community Boards you'll find a whole forum dedicated to 1701 A.D.

Did you try the trial version now?
Or will you go on playing 1602?

Hi Moonlitcoyote, I don't have the game yet, but for all I read in the German boards, you need a real top-of-the-line PC to have full benefit of the 3d-graphics.
And opinions on the quality of the game are differing, so if your PC is good enough, download the trialversion!

I did try to download the trial version BUT it said it takes 14 hours SO I decided to just wait and maybe just buy it, but I dont know if my computer is good enough to handle it. It is a little old and def. not 'top of the line' anyone know of any quicker downloads for the trial version?

Well, to get an impression of the game you can also check the forum and the website for screen shots.

You should really check if your computer is meeting the requirements, it would be a pity spending so much money and not being able to play it. Even some people who have good PCs run into troubles.

I don't know if you know about this but there is also another version in between 1602 and 1701, it's called 1503. It should run with older PC fairly well since it's rather old by now. Still, the graphics are amazing (and 1701 is even more amazing). You might want to check on that too if you are just looking for a new A. D. experience.

Anno 1503 is really nice! But it is quite a bit more complicated then 1602, There are no taxes, you generate your income from the products you sell.
The people go to market stalls where they buy food, salt cloth etc, when you see them buying you can see the mony coming in!
But when your production is low, its very hard not to go bankrupt...

Yeah, I find it quite difficult too, especially when you are beginning a new game and have to build up a new economy. It's quite a task not to go bankrupt. But I just love the graphics. By now the game is so cheap you really can't do much wrong getting it, even if you don't like it that much.

I would like to try both 1503 and 1701...Any clue where to buy them and also how to find out what I need on my computer to run 1701 successfully?

You can also get it on Amazon.

But hold on there for a second! 1503 for FIFTY bucks?!?!?!
Why on earth is it so expensive in the US? The German version is available for $10 to $20 (with expansion).

How long has the game been out in the US, or is it some kind of collectors item?

Well, it's €10,00 not $. Bit still, the price in the USA is extremely high... Check Amazon.co.uk, they sell for £10,00, at least somewhat cheaper...

That is correct, BUT since € = $ (more or less) you can just as well write $. Especially since this is going out to people in the USA, and not all of them know how many $ a € is.

I don't think there were very many copies released in the US, EA Games was the distributor and they were pushing sports games and 3D games heavily when 1503 was released and EA never really gave it the support and marketing needed. Thus the availability of it now is very low and it is hard to find, so Amazon retailers can command a high price for it!

10 euros is 12.99 US dollars, but people in the US are more likely going to have to be concerned with GBP's and not euro's, because they would want an English version of the game most likely and 10 GBP is 19.38 US dollars. But if Amazon.co.uk is the only place they can find it overseas then they are out of luck anyway, because Amazon UK will not ship software to the US.

More or less equal? EUR 1,00 equals USD 1,29!
