While on the island of Soldad, you have been captured by a ruthless Chieftain. He has decided to play a game with you. He offers you the choice of two doors, behind one of which lies a hungry lion and behind the other lies treasures beyond your wildest dreams. Guarding one of the doors is a native who always lies and guarding the other door is a native who always tells the truth. Unfortunately, you cannot tell which is which. You may ask one of the natives for help in choosing the door. They both know which door they are guarding, so what single question could you ask?

Will the other native say that there is treasure behind his door?
Yes -> choose the door of the person you are speaking to.
No -> choose the door of the other person.

Assuming that the natives know about eachother who lies/speaks sooth.

Yeah, does me, too! I had hoped it would take a while for someone to figure it out, so we could have a lot of folks presenting their thoughts on the problem at hand! But it didn't work out that way! The place I first saw the riddle, was on it's fourth page of guesses!

maybe next time we should also consider to post the answer in "spoiler" tags, so other people can also post their guesses.. :go:

*I might be acting stupid, but I don't comprehend Doux' answer?*

If the lying native is the one you're asking and he says yes, then you should choose his door, granted. But if the truthful native is the one your asking and he says yes, then surely that would mean the treasure is at the other door?

No it wouldn´t [very confusing explanation following] because, if the truthful native is answering "yes", this would mean that the lying native would not be guarding the treasure, but if you would go and ask him, he would pretend to be guarding it (although he doesn´t) and answer your question:"Do you guard the treasure?" with "yes" (so he would be lying to you and answer your question with "Yes", although there is no treasure behind his door:

So if you ask the truthful native:"Will the other one say, that there is a treasure behind his door?" the native will know, that the other (who has no treasure) will be lying to you and say "yes"..so his answer is "yes" too :Go:

I know..very confusing..I played it over and over in my mind till I finally had the solution, only to find i already postet in the forums
