I started with Sunflower support, got directed to EA and then got directed to BSS. Ea said it wasn't thier game and BSS can't be bothered replying to the 2 support requests I have sent.
I am disabled and can afford 3 or 4 games a year. I buy from the internet. The policy is if its opened you can't return it. I am stuck with a game I can't play because BSS don't give a flying freak. Mine is the hook problem.
EA suggested that I use properties to change compatability which seemed to get rid of the hook but now get a Microsoft error message about KoH.exe. The funniest part of all this (apart from EA disowning the game) is that they said the game was not designed to operate on XP. I have had no further replies since I asked him to read the OS recommended on the back of the box.
However, I am still stuck with a game I've paid for and have nothing to take my mind off my problems but the money grabbing corps laughing at me.
I looked at your other posts and saw that it was a hook process message you had gotten. Do you have Spyware Doctor installed on your computer by any chance? It has been known to cause the hook process message.

Yes I have spy Dr but I totally shut it down along with all my other protection. So much so I had 153 infections when I started it up again.
EA told me that the game was not designed to run on XP although it is recommended. It seems that nobody gives a sh*t about the poor gamers as long as they have our money. I cannot return it as I bought it over the internet and once the wrapper is off then no returns.
Thank you at least for showing an interest which is more than BSS have done or EA for that matter.
Gerry.
I believe that your original hook process message was generated due to Spyware Doctor addressing the KoH files. Have you tried doing an uninstall, cleaning all traces of KoH, including any registry entries that refer to Sunflowers or Black Sea Studio. IF not, then do that, then reinstall the game without Spyware Doctor running, even in the background, then try to run KoH!
I am not asking you to keep spyware doctor from running all the time, just when you try to run the game.
As far as it running on Win XP, that is what I am running the game in. I have Win XP Pro with SP2, 1.33 ghz processor, 512 mb RAM, FX5200 128 mb graphics card and a CDRW drive.
I wish I had more to offer you!

Pretty Sure it's the Spyware Doctor...I have it and the only way I could get KOH to run was to uninstall it, just shutting it down won't do it. I have XP and it runs fine after that. I didn't have to clean anything extra out just the uninstall of SD.
When I'm not playing the game I just reinstall SD(keeping the Spyware Doctor.exe setup program on my computer for easy excess)) and run it to clean things up every once in a while. A pain but not that big of a deal.
Welcome to the forum, Frost716! :halloha:
Thanks for the information! Now we know one solution to the Spyware Doctor hook issue!

Thanks for the advice Dobber but it still doesn't start. I get the microsoft message instead of the hook one. Everything was turned off except my computer. This does not happen with any other game, even another EA game like Generals.
By the by, not a dicky bird from BSS. I think they have either gone bankrupt or have taken my cash for a slap up time in Burgas. Or maybe they have all come to the UK for a proper job like so many other new EU members.
Thanks anyway.
gamcfall, did you try the solution Frost716 found worked for him? Uninstalling spyware doctor?
They are currently working on another patch for KoH, I don't know if that is an issue they are looking at though. As to BSS, usually developers leave the support of the games to the distributors, especially matters of installation and copy protection. Sometimes installation files are modified by distributors, like EA, Paradox, Aspyr and others.
Okay, folks, it appears the new patch eliminates this problem! The patch eliminates the need for the CD to be in the drive, so there is no CD check being performed for there to be any conflicts! :go:
We have a member that used to have to uninstall Spyware Doctor in order to play the game, report back that after patching they no longer have to uninstall their Spyware Dr. to play!
Dobber, little off-topic here.
But did you really installed the UK patch on US version?

I can't speak for Dobber but I did, and it works fine so far. I have the US boxed version.

Yep, I sure did! I made myself the guinea pig(at least I think I was the first from the US, I was the first to report back at any rate) and reported back that it went flawlessly!
