Multiplayer?

I was wondering if someone would be so kind to describe the multiplayer in this game. I borrowed a friend's copy to check it out and I fell in love with 1701. I am going to head out and pickup a copy myself as soon as I can find a store that carries it.

In the meantime, I was curious about the multiplayer mode. Exactly how is it played? Is it just like the single player but with humans substituting for the AI factions? Is there still combat and trade involved? How long do the games usually last?

I was unfortunately not able to try out the multiplayer while I had my friend's copy. But I played the heck out of the single-player continuous mode and got all the way to the aristocrat level.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully once I get the game I'll see some of you folks online!

It is like the single player, with combat and trading in it. :go: You can play with at least 3 other human players or with a friend against 2 KI-Players. How long the games last depends on the goals you set at the beginning of a game. At Example, I play with a friend since 2 weeks, gametime at least 12 hours with 2 KI-Players. Winning condition is to own 90% of the map.
If you play with independence as winning condition, you have to deal with the fact that a complete weekend will fall at ANNO :rofl:
