Hello everyone. A friend and I were trying to set up a TCP/IP 1602 AD game for Direct Play. Everything was working fine, but we were never able to connect to each others games. We both got the error message

Groups Available:
The group isn't active yet, or the maximum number of players has been reached. Please go "Back" to the preceeding page and try again within a few moments.

We both tried disabling our firewalls completely.
We both looked up our IP addresses using run-CMD (to get into dos-prompt) then ipconfig.exe.
We both cross referenced those IP addresses to the website "What Is My IP Address", which is found here: http://whatismyipaddress.com/

My friends IP address stayed the same, except when he disconnected and reconnected his internet, where the last three digits changed

So in three tries, it was:
63.11.6.141
63.11.6.181
63.11.6.223

My IP Address did not match up. It reads as 215.168.242.90 on the Website, and

193.169.124.175 for my IP address according to ipconfig.exe, and 193.169.124.253 as my default gateway according to ipconfig.exe.

My friend tried both his old desktop computer, and his laptop, both of which run Windows XP. I am also running windows XP.

Any suggestions for how we can game with each other?

Thanks in advance.

Well only one of you needs the other ones address. If you are both entering the address for the other, you are both then trying to enter a game the other never started. Now that you are confused.

One person is the host and provides his IP address to the other player, use the one acquired from the What is my IP website, it is what the other computer will see.(If you are behind a router, the ipconfig lan address will be different than the actual web IP).
The host uses the create game option within the 1602 MP section and the other person uses the join game option. I is best to let the host go in and set up his game first then the other person then attempt to join, that gives the host time to have the game ready to receive the joiner when he attempts to join.

Compare the ip from the one you have to the one at www.ipchicken.com It'll tell your ip. And if they are the same, jsut do what Dobber said-- someone must be the host (The one with the best computer)

Have a look at these instructions (http://www.annozone.de/articles.php?show=48) - I think your router is not configured correctly. I hope that helps.

Sorry if that wasn't clear. We took turns. I hosted a game. He tried to join. He got the failed message. I hosted another game, left it up till he tried to join (we were on the phone). He got a second failed message.

I left my game up another 30 minutes while he tinkered around. He got several more failed messages

Then he tried to host, and I did the same as he did - joined the game several times, each time getting that same error message.

I checked my IP with you website, and it still gives me the same result. 215.168.242.90

Roadrunner, thanks. Very likely, it is a Router Problem.
