View Full Version : What marshal skils you use? (part one)

The question is clear I guess.

But there is also second question:
Would you consider using a mod?

I need to know this to preferably take those who would.
Why? Yes, this is a survey for a mod. The major military diference between AI and human player is experience of marshals. Average AI marshal is - in later phases of game - dramaticaly less experienced than average player's marshal.
And when the player has most impressive military success? In later phases when his 10+ star marshals meet AI's 0-5 star marshals. It's obvious why they aways lose eventhough they use very good units now!

I'd prefere other solution: make the knights age, just like kings, princes and patriarchs. Maybe the process shuold be slower, but they should age. Without this the player has very important advantage over the AI.

I need to know what knights skills we use the most - those will be weakened the most in my mod (and I recomend it also to other modders), the other may be left relatively more important, as the AI uses them more.
Logic is simple: the more we use it, the more it should be weakened.

With all do respect, but I think changing this aging knights stuff is wrong. Not becaus I don't think it's fair but becaus of the power of those damn spies, if I have to remake marshall after marshall just becaus they die of old age i'm bound to have an enemy spy in my court. If they weren't that powerfull I wouldn't mind, but right now I do mind.
So maybe it's something for KOH2 (aging of knights) cuz in my honest opinion there is to much tweaking and stuff to do on KOH for just another patch/mod (whatever).

I do like your other idea, it's good for the people who want it, and since it's a choice (if you want to install the mod or not) I like it the most.

And as I said, for gameplay reasons they would age much slower than the kings now, at least like the patriarchs, with the diference that AI nights would age slower than human players of course (I think most of things like this in KOH 2 should be tweakable and diferent for the AI and the human)

And the idea of aging is only for KoH2, I don't think that even expansion could include it. And since it most likely isn't moddable, this (weakaning of marshal skills) is the only solution to tie the advantage of human player

About age...why not...but the way i play, AI marshalls are actually often more qualified then mine...:wink:

Same here, I set different skills depending on the duty the Marshall is to serve!

I think we all do. But I think that some skills are used more and some less. I wonder which are used the most and which not

I also think, knigths should be ale to die. So I would LOVE to see this. :angel: And I think, this is a good solution.

I always use leadership and dread. I think they are unbalanced: my generals with 3-4 stars takes out easyly generals (famous rebels with nice armies, no farmers) with 8 stars, because the AI chooses random, while I always have i.e. 1 star leadership , 2 stars dread (for the first 3 stars)

I actually dont REALLY mind too much, but I think it is somewhat unbalanced and the AI suffers that a lot.

unfortunately aging of knights isn't question of a mod.

if it was possible I wouldn't ask this question because the superiority of human player's knights would be solved

I dream about KoH2

Actually I don't have preferred skills. I just keep the experience-stars until a situation arises where a particular skill would be useful. So I lead a battle, the marshall gains a star, I don't spend it, some day he meets an enemy in the night and just a few seconds before the battle he gets the night stalker ability. Similar for other cases.

On the aging knights: Due to the few children born my marshalls actually quite often turn mortal.
Perhaps it's time to get back to the idea of the early GoG-versions, where there was only 1 regular marshall and only royals beside that. That one immortal marshall has a very high propability of becoming mortal at some time during the game.

I use a the swordsman skill a lot since most of the units in my armies are melee units (Roman Infantry, Normans, Men-at-arms etc..)

As for me the skills that influance gameplay most are :
- leadership
- dread
- conqueror

In few words all the abilities which improve our morale or decrease this value in opponent. After several hours of playing I win each single battle just by massive retreat of my enemy, so it's far too easy. Of course if AI has experienced marshals, there are problems but not for long. Usually till I shoot them with archers or in the fortified camp.

Does the AI choose marshall skills completely at random?

If so, say its chosen leadership, and its earned another star. After having chosen leadership once, can it still choose leadership a secon time, or does it fill all six slots first before re-choosing skills its already chosen?
