In one game I'm playing, toward the beginning, I had kingdom power five, and dishonored a royal marriage inheritance demand from an ally, they declared war, and I was bumped all the way down to -5 kingdom power. (Oops. Quit. Reload. Hey I'm still learning here...) Later in that game, though, I was at 5 kingdom power, and dishonored a royal marriage inheritance demand from an ally, they declared war on me, and I remained at KP of 5.
The only difference I can think of between the two situations is that in the first situation, the ally and I were co-religionists, while in the second situation, we were not.
Any ideas what was the deal here?
What all do I need to know about the relationship between my diplomatic actions and my kingdom power?

Hmm on second thought, I'm starting to think I have remembered the first situation incorrectly. I think the first situation was one where I made the royal marriage inheritance demand.
Well, shoot, now I can't remember.
Anyway, I still want to know: What is there to know about the relationship between diplomatic actions and kingdom power?
