well, did you set any conditions for victory? because without those there is no end, its just play play play

yes all the foreign cultures and the pirates. the only one alive is me, the free trader and the queen. the queen has given me my independence at the beginning

Are you sure you didn't have an additional condition set?

Make sure you have destroyed or occupied all the opponents buildings and killed every soldier. Sometimes one can miss the smallest rememant and therefore not be the last survivor.

I'm at that point too. I have destroyed the Pirate mainly because I needed his Gems. I have independence.

I have the money, research, and resources to defeat all the other major opponets, easily should I choose to do so, but find myself wondering...if I should? I have an overabundance of materials in all categories and tons of cash built up.

Would killing off the other cultures effectively destroy my own economy?....one that was buillt up with great care over the past week or so ? Who would buy my "stuff." Who would the Free Trader sell the materials he buys to?....I sell to the subcultures directly but they really don't buy all that much....mostly just surplus items...and I only sell to them to keeps the rats from devouring the excess..

I set no conditions of victory so I suppose I could keep doing this pretty much forever, simply keeping the status quo.

My guess is that it is now time for me to just end this game and start a new one with increased difficulty settings.

I've won the game as sole survivor without killing off any of the indiginous cultures. As I understand it, just the 3 AI's need to be wiped out to meet the win criteria. According to your post, "the queen gave you independence at the beginning"?

To achieve independence, you have to reach aristocrat level, build a castle, build a lighthouse, and either pay the queen her tributes, or defeat her fleet. Have you done those things?

yes i've done first defeat her fleet and then she wanted to come over to discuss and gave me independence.
but i've not built in the A1's players land when they left. at least not in all of their islands... could that be the solution?

... could that be the solution?
I don't think so

But: maybe you forgot one little ship on the whole map
Did you look all over the map, if there is a last ship of the opponent?

Any ships the AI has left sail off the map when the AI pulls out, but I have heard of their ship(s) getting hung up at the edge of the map. you might want to check all the edges of the map.

yes you were right, they have left a ship at the edge of the map but i can't do anything with it since the player has left the game...
any ideas???

Well, you could try holding control key while trying to attack the ship and see if that allows you to attack it. You could use that method in previous Anno's to attack things that ordinarily wouldn't be attacked,
You could go back to your last save before the player surrendered, if you have a save from then, and play it out again and see if you could prevent that happening.
You could, since you chose "last survivor"as victory condition, declare victory and move on to your next round of 1701.

Have you checked the log book to see the conditions for winning? Perhaps you've missed something.
