Hi, I am new to this forum due to i just bought KOH.
I have a intel mac and saw the game knights of honor and immediatly took a liking to it. I have installed windows xp on my computer and am running it on parellels. The installation and everything went smoothly, yet when i go to actually play the game it gives me one of two messages. Unable ot authenticate disk-retry or use different driver, or use original copy of KOH(which it is) not a backup. I have compared specs for knights of honor and my mac and it seems that it should run fine...except for the directx card(which i am only partly sure on what it is). I don't know if Macs have directx compatible cards and I figure that might be part of my holdup. I am pretty much lost and if anybody has something that I have overlooked or someting that could help me out so I can play, it would Greatly appreciated:smile: thanks

Hi and welcome to the forums. I would try the latest patch for this game. It dose not require the CD to play the game I think its v1.5 international version. It will work for the USA. Good luck,

Which Windows XP did you install? You'll probably need to do some Windows Updates. The newest DirectX version will also help. Without those, the errors will occur.

Intel does not do cards by the way, but only chipsets. A card is best but KoH will work with a chipset if you have the Intel Windows drivers to go with it.

I also hope you're using bootcamp as Macs as a general rule don't work well with Windows without it. Make sure you have enough free space for Windows, the game, and your pagefile to "breathe" as well. Otherwise this too can cause problems. Good Luck!

BTW: I don't know how the last poster came up with that theory. I have the latest parch and the CD IS required to run the game, unless it's a "hacked" version and then the patch won't install.

Sincerely,
Phil

Thanks to both of you guys for your comments, they've definatlly cleared alot up. Phil to you question, I have installed xp home edition. To your comment about bootcamp, I guess i am not sure what you mean, bootcamp is the standard intel mac windows player(there's a hefty phrase), but parrallels is an upgrade(so you don't have to reboot everytime). Are you saying that you think KOH will work best just on the standard bootcamp? Thanks again for both of your guys help!

Glad to be of help! As to your OS, I was not aware there was an upgrade of bootcamp, so it that's what you have, you should have no trouble as long as you have the proper Windows software installed. On other forums I use Mac users have had some success, but the video drivers have been problematic. Being I'm not a Mac user, I can't help with that, but someone more fluent with both and the "crossover" should be able to tell you what is needed and what to do better than I can. My Best!

Sincerely,
Phil

Thanks again Phil,
I undestand that your not a mac user(i'm kinda a lone wolf). I complement you on your mac knowledge for a non-mac user though. Could I ask one more clarifier...as you mentioned in your first reply, what windows upgrades would you suggest I get? Thanks Again!:pleased:

PS: I didn't phrase it well, but Parrellels is actually its own program, not an upgrade, but does the same thing.

zycore is right, applying the latest patch (1.05) and you dont need the CD anymore ... did you not realize it yet? :silly:

Nogales, if the new patch is US, I have it and CAN'T boot the game without the CD on BOTH of my systems. Back at Ya! I went to the download page to make sure I had all and the latest patch and it won't let me dowload anything US, so I guess I do. :go:

To answer you're question Ma'am, any XP version is fine. I just wanted to note the version in case you have trouble getting the updates. If what you have is not bootcamp, I can't say. I just know bootcamp has worked with other games, but your OS wasn't noted one way or the other on the forums I use.

Sincerely,
Phil

Phil, please check to see which version your game is patched to. Which if you bought the version distributed to the US by Paradox, it did not need a patch as it was already 1.03. And if you have been searching for patches for US version, you have not found the latest patch. The 1.05 patch has not been released for US version, however the recently released German, English(UK), French combo patch 1.05 does work on the US version and does remove the requirement of having the CD inserted in the drive.

Game was one of the originals that did not even have the first parch Dobber. It showed when I first updated, my version did not support the 1.05 as it was available even in the US downloads section, so I'll wait. I only patch what is definitely stated as US as I've had issues with this with other games I've had to patch that show US support but not true US release. If it doesn't happen, I am happy with what I have as it works fine.

Sincerely,
Phil

I am glad we could help. :swordfigh

Phil the International patch v1.05 works on the US version as well. If you purchased your game from Paradox it will come patched to v1.03
If you have your Cd's still it can't hurt to patch the game. If you have any problems just reinstal. Good luck and have fun.
