View Full Version : Am I all alone?

I'm beginning to feel like a dinosaur
It seems like the Anno world is leaving me behind. How many of us here in the 1602 section are still playing 1602 because we can't get into the world of 1701? Don't get me wrong, I still love 1602 and am as addicted as I ever was. I try to keep up with what's going on with 1701 by reading the threads in that section but it all just makes my head spin:scratch:
If I was a bit more computer savy I might feel more confident about getting a new computer with which I could play the new game. I never got my first computer until I was fifty and after I got my second more powerful unit 3/4 years ago I thought I was set. While becoming a fair 1602 player I'm affraid I never learned much about the computer itself. As soon as 1701 came out I bought it at once only to find out just how outdated I had become. :nono:
At some time I would like to upgrade to a 1701 capable machine but all the talk about problems with "cards" & "shaders" and all the other things I know nothing about chills me to the bone when I think about spending $1,500 or so to enter the 21st. century only to find out I'll be extict again in a year or two. Now comes the complication of "Vista", yes? or "Vista", no.........:bash:
Well, that's all the venting I need to do for now. I was just wondering if I was alone or if there are any more of you in the same sinking ship.

Nah, I feel exactly the same. I love playing 1602 and 1503 and both run perfectly here. In fact, I don't have time to play even those as much as I want to so I don't really *need* 1701. Still, it would be nice.

I'll be upgrading my machine soon but I guess then there will be no money left to buy 1701 AND I'm not sure if it's worth that at all since there seem to be quite a few problems. But you have to take in account that many people who have problems come here to fix them while the games runs fine for the vast majority of players. They just never come here cause they have no reason to.

What I need is a new processor, a new graphics card and more RAM. Shouldn't be the problem one should think. And since I don't really need the latest stuff it should even be more or less affordable. But then there are a ton of other things to consider: What will fit to the mainboard, will the power supply be enough for the new components, do I need additional cooling, will I still be able to use my monitor, will the whole system still work properly afterwards?
I need my computer for work, I can't afford messing it up for a game.

I plan to spend € 250 to € 300 and then it should meet all the requirements... I'm just not sure if suddenly a problem will arise that will cost me a lot of additional money to fix. Money I neither have nor am willing to spend...

So: No, you are not alone. It's just that you are in a place with a bunch of people who know more about all that technical stuff than most people. Right? I hope so...

"Am I all alone?"

try this: visit next church and pray. perhaps holy ghost exists and perhaps he will come down and acompany you for the rest of your life... perhaps...

"... to buy 1701 AND I'm not sure if it's worth that at all..."

i'm sure, it isn't worth. i own a computer, which will run 1701 in a nice way, but i'll never purchase 1701.

Dread Pirate Terry,

vista: NOOO
unfortunatly new computers come with vista. re-install your windows xp.

i don't know the situation/prices in usa. in germany you'll have to spend about $1,000 to enter 18th century, not 21st

some specifications of a new computer, which runs 1701 with high graphics:
processor (cpu): minimum Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
memory (RAM): so called "dual channel technology" with two times 1024 MB, which equals a total of 2048 MB

video card to run 1701 with high graphics:
nvidia: GeForce 7600 GS or better
ATI: 1800 GTO or better

a computer with above specifications and without Windows-OS will cost about €850/€900 here in germany.

if you want to play with very high graphic-configuration, you have to purchase a very expensive video card.

No, you ar not alone. And the ship is not sinking, it swims very well.

There are lots of people here, who play not 1701, cause they not want or cause they not can or both.

I can not play 1701, cause my video adapter is not good enough. But I will ot buy a new one, cause I think, I will not have so much fun with 1701 like with 1602 or 1503. I rode all I can find about 1701, and I'm sure, it's to simple for me. There is no real challenge.

And Vista is bull****. Nobody needs it. Nobody waits for it. It's only good for hardware industry, cause it needs more hardware ressources then a operating system should. I'm sure, the hardware industry pays Bill Gates for making a Windows that needs a high end computer, that they can sell their new hardware.

Terry, I will throw in another thing to consider! They are already working on Anno 4, what the requirements for it will be, no one knows!

Hi, Terry! :hello:

You're not alone. I still play 1602. I never did get 1503 and I have no plans to get 1701 since I don't think it will run on my pc.

It is going to drive many people back to pencil and paper.

There are some nice games which can be played without electricity.

And - oh my word - some very good music which can be made also without electricity.

You can even cook your own food without McDonald's deep fry!

Thank You for all the advice..........and warnings.
I guess Sunflowers should be happy, I did buy the game.
Sorry Microsoft, I refuse to spend the money to upgrade to a system that will play it though.
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one stuck in the 17th. century.

I kno not of anyone but myself so I will just tell you about me.I live in USA so I will be talking in US dollars.I bought my computer 5 years ago from Walmart for 495 US dollars. It is a hp pavillion 520c.These cheap models do not have a video card that is mounted in a pci slot. Those are where you have such cards as networking or dial-up modems etc.I too could not play the newer games.I went to the manufacturs website and typed in my model number and it gave me the specs which list what your motherboard will support. In my case it was up to 1 GB of memory.I could only go up to a 5200G-force video card. The higher end video cards fit in the agp slots below your motherboard. To make this simpler for you-the pci slots are white and are on the bottom and the agp slots are more of a brown color and just above the pci slots. You will have more of the pci(3 or 4)than the agp(usually 2).I went to the Tiger Direct website and got 2 512MB memory sticks for 70 dollars US each and the G-force video card for 54 dollars US.I bought a cooling fan that fits in a pci slot and put it in the top pci slot so it is under the video card that fits in the bottom agp slot. All the better video cards put out tremendous heat and need extra cooling but the fans are inexpensive.Mine cost 9 dollars US.So I bougt all I needed for just over 200 US dollars. This is as high as I can upgrade this computer.I play 1602 -paraworld-1701-and they all play fine.1701 loads a tat bit slower than the others but still very playable. Now I have ordered 1503-lol.I never have played it so maybe the answer is to go back instead of forward-lol.I hope this has not been all trash for you and maybe help you in some way.Good luck:eek:

I think, 1503 is not a step backwards cause it has a completly other gameplay then 1602 and 1701. The economy in 1503 based only on selling products to your inhabitants, there are no taxes.

Hope you have much fun with it.
