View Full Version : Large trading ship?

I am now researching the large trading ship. I assume when I build one of those at my large ship dock the ship will have *all* 4 slots available to it for carrying goods. Right now with my small ships I only get 3 slots available while I can see there is room for a 4th. When I set up my trading routes it allows me to pick 4 items to carry, but only 3 are being taken right now. Am I correct? Thanks.

2 small ships cost 40 (20 ech), and transports 6 differrent typs of goods up to 240 tons ( 40 tons a slot * 3 slots a ship * 2 ships),

where as 1 large ship costs 50, and transports 4 differrent types of goods up to 160 tons.

This is without hull expansion research, which i never get, of course. So personally, for my maintanence dollar spent 2 small traders are vastly superior to 1 large.

Unless of course you have plenty of income and you are trying to assemble a large war fleet. In that case if the route can be served by a single large ship do it, cause that means one more warship for your navy.

My personal favourite though is once I have established a good cash flow I replace all the small traders with exploration ships. For an extra 20 in maint costs you get the same 6 goods to 240 tons, and a limited self defense capability. Plus the exploration ships are much tougher than the small trade vessel, allowing time for your warships to move in and support. Sometimes you can also defend against small attacks like pirates just with the trade ships in the area, without need to call in heavy support.

In my opinion the exploration ship is faster as well, at least it seems so to me!

Yes it is. A little bit :go:

I have the strategy book, in which is a number for every ship.

But i think/guess i'm not allowed to quote this here

I can't decide between exploration and trading ships. I don't know which one is faster without cargo (I think its the exploration ship), but with alot of cargo the trading ship doesn't loose its speed....and I don't really want to waste cannons on my ships on the trading routes....

Exploration ships to me are light warships with transport capability.

I use them as gunboats.

The official titel is "ANNO 1701 - Das offizielle Strategiebuch" (=Anno 1701- the official strategybook)

It was published by Halycon Media GmbH. (but is produced by Sunflowers and Related Design :go: )

Here is a picture of it.
But it's the german Amazon website, sorry.
http://www.amazon.de/Anno-1701-Das-offizielle-Strategiebuch/dp/3939786020/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_text_b/303-5687009-9980227

It's a book with a lot of numbers/statistics about the citizen, soldiers, buildings, ship, and more...
There are also all the scenarios and a solution for each.
And all the AI-players (and cultures) and their profiles and some statistics about their behaviour.

And very veeery much pictures :go:

edit: it has about 160 pages.

But i think it's only available in german

PS: this is the official book. There are also one or two inofficial
