I will never give up on this topic, but as I was browsing through the unit showcase, I came upon the Crusader Infantry. If the colors were changed and they were given a different helmet, they would look like Hospitallers. If they are going to be called "Crusader Infantry", at least give them some historical signifaccance.

Hmmm...that is good idea. Perhaps also change the name of Crusader Cavalry to Turcopoles. I don't have any idea for Crusader Crossbowmen though. :D

actually. change Crusader Cav to Hospitlars and give them high morale. IIRC, Turcoples were natives from the regions that fought for the Latin kingdoms. Perhaps make them availiable if a Latiin kingdom conquers a Arabian province that has aceess to a special unit..
sound good Fin and Honaire?

Well...
First let me say that I'm a supporter for the Crusader units... :p
That's because we cannot discriminate the huge amount of quantities of people that went to fight for Jerusalem. We cannot group them only in just 3 special orders of chivalry, that only would be available to few lucky realms.
Crusades were a Medieval phenomena, with a huge impact in Europe and a big part of Asia, and not just the playground of 3 Orders.
I know I know... you are considering the Turcopoles... But were the Turcopoles the only infantry fighting for the Western Church?
That was the little historian inside me.
Second... And here comes the little engineer inside me...
This is a game. In a game the designers usually balance things so that no player have a big advantage over another one... If now the designers make a decision like this and changuing so considerably the units and units distribution, the game may suffer from unbalance. Time should be invested to test the consequences of the choice, time should be invested to find solutions and more time should be invested to find if these solutions worked.
You are proposing a somewhat radical decision here... A new order of cavalry (Hospitalliers) that would only be available to few realms and not to all Catholic realms (I mean the Crusaders, that appear under the special condition of a Crusade being declared).
Also the Turcopoles... I think the current system of a crusade needed to be declared in order to summon the 'Crusaders' is far more real.
What happens if the Italian king conquers Egypt just because he wants... No crusade, no christianity reasons... Just liked the Sphinx... Would the appearance of Turcopoles in that case be realistic??? :nono: I don't think so...
The Crusades system if you think about it is far more real! And interesting!
Well , maybe this Turcopole idea is a good idea... Complex but good.... But only should happen if a Crusade is declared. And also something like it but for the Muslims could happen... I think like in Spain when it was nearly conquered by the Muslims... Weren't some Europeans fighting for the invaders?
And third and finally...
And here comes the IT student inside me (IT stands for Information Technology)...
Altough I have sayed this many times I will never get tired of repeating this:
IF YOU WANT NEW UNITS (AND TRUST ME I SURE DO)
REPLACING THE OLD ONES IS NOT THE SOLUTION!!
THE SOLUTION IS ADDING!!!
The days were units were limited are already gone... I don't know why you have this idea so sticked in your mind that every time we have to add a new unit another should be sacrificed in its name.
If you want Hospital guys! Ok!
If you want Templars cavalrymen, OK!
If you want naked Africans with lances, OK!
BUT WHY REPLACING IT FOR ANOTHER UNITS???
