View Full Version : Patch tries to uninstall Anno
Hi, I'm in Australia, so I downloaded the US patch, but when executing the file I got the error message: wrong language pack.
So I went and downloaded the UK version (from an Aussie mirrow), but when I executed that it opened an uninstall set up, offering no other option than to uninstall the game.
Please advice why that is, or what might have gone wrong.

Hello and wellcome to the forum ginger :halloha:
First of all it is neccessary to know, which language version did you purchase? The UK version or the US version...then you have to look for the right patch.
sometimes it happens, that the patch does not detect the right language version..
in this case it may help to uninstall the game (save your savegames and profile folders) then reinstall the game and directly execute the correct patch.
....or check for your language options in the registry:
work station\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sunflower s\Anno 1701 ...there should be a keyy called LANGUAGE ...
If you exactly know, which version you use, then there should be the same country code as in the patch...
Welcome to the forum. ginger! :halloha:
I guess most importantly which version of the game do you have?
And then the filename of the patch you downloaded.
Edit-Mory was just a bit quicker with the submit button
Hi you two landlovers
thanks for your quick replies :go:
See here my reg details
http://www.boxheads.com.au/regkey.gif
It states I run the English version 1.01 (fair enough, me being in OZ).
I downloaded these two patches:
1701ad_patch101_usa.exe
anno1701_patch101_uk.exe
The first said wrong language, the latter started to uninstall Anno.
So which English language could you possibly refer to (as there is no Aussie patch, is it?!)?
And the suggestion to uninstall is not satisfactory, there must be a better way to infuse a simple patch.
Please advice.

When one attempts to install the wrong patch (as it will fail) you DO need to uninstall as there are registry keys throughout the registry that get put in that only an uninstall and reinstall will take care of.
The USA patch is for version only in the USA. Unless you ordered the game via an American supplier or shop and it being in English you ended up with the UK English version. This is true of almost every game on the market, not just Anno.
Sincerely,
Phil
re... "one attempts to install the wrong patch"
I tried both English patches available. How can they BOTH be wrong? Which English is still out there I haven't tried?
I bought the game from an Australian game house, and the registry states ENG as language (see above).
Please advice

There are only two versions of English (UK and USA), game and patch. If you bought it in "Aussieland", you got the UK version. However, you tried the USA parch first (according to what you said). So, the conflicting keys ARE in there and trying to install over the top will not work. So, this is why an uninstall must be done (to remove all of Anno from your system and registry). Don't use the game uninstaller though as it is not thorough. You need to use Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> (Game Name) -> Change/Remove button. Reboot after closing all windows and then install fresh AND use the UK patch only. Get rid of the USA patch.
Sincerely,
Phil
One thing you could try before uninstalling the game is to delete the 1701 A.D. key from the registry, then try the UK patch. If it still says it needs to uninstall the game then follow Phil's advice. :go:
Why's there a "UK" and a "USE" version in the first place? If thats both enlish
And different names for the game Anno 1701 and 1701 A.D.,
but mainly different distributors as Rnett stated.

The outgoing president Georg Walker Bush is an Anno-Gamer too. He needs his own Language/Version.
Ah the other Name makes senze  i was wondering about A.D.

I think you mean, "a 'UK' and a 'USA' version".
The US government has complicated regulations about import and export of computer software and hardware. Meeting those regulations causes differences (likely minor) between the version marketed in the US and others marketed elsewhere.
Don't ask me why single copies of other versions can be shipped into the US with no apparent problem.
