Hi guys I'm new,
I bought Anno 1701 a couple of days a go and was loving it...
Until I was going to play it for the second time, the game started loading and then a message appeared: "Please instert Cd/Dvd and try again"
I tried everything in my powers!
*Re-installed it, it only works the first time
*Downloaded new drivers for my graphics card (I was desperate)
*Tried my other games in fear of my Dvd driver being broken, all my other games worked perfectly well...
*Checked the CD for scratches, none.

I really don't know what to do now, I loved the two times I was able to play the game. It's so much fun!
Can you guys please help me?

mine won't run without the disk in the drive.....can't even start a new game without it (as in finish one scenario and go to the next)

This has come up with many games before, so this is just a guess as I'm not aware of the file format for this game. In other games, you need to edit the main ".ini" ffile to recognize the DVD. Can't remember the line or word for word, you need to change the device number from 0 or 1 to 4. It's near the "Loaded from Volume" line if not mistaken. It's just I don't know the file, but it has been an ".ini" file for all the other games and it's somewhere in the Widnows folder. Worth investigating anyway and good luck!

Sincerely,
Phil

-is it DVD compatible drive? Yes
-can you access the DVD? No
-does the dvd begin to spin when you start anno? Yes, but in some kind of strange monotone spin, as if it can't hook up to the Dvdrom.
-try to reinstall copy protection Where dan I find this?

I can't find any .ini file Phill, could you please be more specific?

Still doesn't work...
Thanks anyway guys

Try to restart your computer with the DVD inserted. Or open the DVD drive, and turn the DVD a bit (30-45°), maybe it is just in an unfortunate position...

If you have a second drive, try that one.

BTW the copy protection driver can be downloaded here: http://www.tagesprotection.com/5.5.htm

Have you tried poppingi out spinning it one-sixteenth of a turn clockwise and pooping it back in?! I've had some DVDs I've had to do this with (and often). Sometimes it takes up to 10 times to get it to "catch".

As I noted before, I'm not sure of the format for this game. It should be in your Windows folder is all I can say for sure. Usually have the game/compnay name. ini, at least most of the other games that have had this issue. I don't have the game installed, so as I noted, this is just experineces with past/other games. What this does is allows DVD drives to be recognized as sometimes the ".ini" files only address CD drives. This is why the 4 is used as that does represent a DVD, where zero or 1 is for CD. You'll have to get it from one who has the game installed though, and I'll notify one who can pass the word along to make sure this might be the case.

Sincerely,
Phil

Edit: RoadRunner was quicker to reply than I was.

mmmmh.. you cannot access the DVD even if you try hard? Lets try something.
First you can do insert the DVD and restart the computer with it inserted, just to be sure.
Then open the windows explorer and browse to your DVD drive which should be labeled "ANNO1701" when the DVD is in. You should see all the Anno Files on the DVD, some have the Anno Icon too.
If you have that, then i suppose anno would work.

If not, then try to get the newest copyprotection (ugh) again from the site that was posted here.

Hi guys,
it still doesn't work, I've tried all the things stated above.

I'm beginning to wonder, maybe my Dvd drive is broken, although it plays most of the games I have. I'm going to a computer repair shop one of these days, maybe they can have a look at the drive.

Thanks anyway guys!
