can i change the number of ships allowed

It seems in some games you need more ships is there a file that controls this?

the maximal number of ships is hard coded within the game..so thre are only small changes possible, but building any further ships will cause a crash to desktop....

If you use the editor, you may change the ship setting using the following codes:

type W (shift+w) -> you will see a cursor in the lower left corner
type shipmax and hit return
type 10 (for 10 ships, or change the number as you like) and hit return
type a and hit return -> A voice sample will be played, that is the confirmation that the ship limit was changed.

Changing the number of ships you are limited to in any scenario made by someone else could be considered a cheat wouldn't it? If you are making your own scene that would be something else entirely. There are no scenes that I'm aware of that can't be completed with 33 ships or less. Even "Delusions of Grandeur" can be completed and that scene has a limit of 20 ships. If you are just learning the game the best thing you can do is learn the most efficient use of automatic trade routes.
