So i've just completed the 10th scenario last nite and it took me about 7 days to do them all, i'm not sure if its fast or slow but ive just been playing it every evening for about 3-4 hrs...

Now what i'm curious about is why there are so few scenarios included with the game, why there are no campaigns and why all the scenarios are relatively easy both combat and economy wise??? i mean for all the scenarios i didnt have to go beyond the citizen level to win (except of course #9 where reaching the merchant level was the goal). Shouldn't there be some tricky scenarios where you have to have high # of merchants or certain # of aristocrats on certain # of islands... or create a self sustaining empire with profit and aristocrats??? or something like that?

Yes you can create your own game and set goals... but its not as fun as the scenarios, i like the different characters dialoges and hints and the unexpectedness of events that take place in scenarios

i just wish tehre were more! and more complex ones.

can you download them anywhere??

There is not yet an official editor for the game, once there is, players will be creating scenarios for download.

And you know, these sort of things need to be included BEFORE the game is released, not after. Now in order to keep the updates long after the site is gone, lost in time.. I'll have to burn a CD copy of the patches or after-market upgrades to the software. It is more convenient and worth $40 when the company in question makes sure most of this data is on the CD when sold for such a high price. The very fact that all these important updates and fixes are after my purchase would lead me to conclude that this game is only half complete, and should be sold for only $20 for that reason alone. I still have major major bug issues with the GUI system in 1701. Seams along the edges, weird matte garbage around text. The multi-player system was patched a bit, but it is still very poor in sum. I think Sunflower should look into Empire Earth: Art of Conquest's Multi-player interface. It is far more advanced and like from 2002. It also is a pain in 1701, which isn't directly Sunflowers fault, that everyone in the multi-player chat room is pretty much German, and there is few players even online. I'm assuming from this that all version of the game share the same singular chat room, and if this is true.. well out of all the countries who sell this game... there arn't many people playing it online. I'd be concerned about how successful this game is selling just by that.
But back to the original point. Look at 1602. Map editor was included with the original release. The multi-player was there and worked fine unlike 1503. Some patches were released for minor bugs, and they were pretty minor since I never noticed. 1602 isn't just superior in its game play, but also its release was far more organized and successful. 1701 is basicly being sold in chunks, and then it is our job to have internet access and acquire the other chunks that are quite large patches, to make sure we have them before they are gone. And you have to burn them to a CD, otherwise 5 years can go by and you may decide to play 1701 all those years later... but oh no, so many bugs with the game, not map editor, none of the added features, then you will wish you had that copy of the patch. I paid $40, so I expect a clean cut game with minor bugs and everything it is supposed to have.

PS: If I wanted an incomplete/partially finished game, I'd just go to moddb.com and download some of the highest quality mods which are free, like Pirates Vikings and Knights. Just understand, when something is official.. published, it has to meet high standards, so there is no excuse that Sunflower can make or any of its fans can make.

EDIT: About the scenarios, since I didn't actually share my opinion on that. The scenarios are simply not enough. There should be campaigns, I do agree. 1602 from my memory had quite a bit more than 10 levels, but I may be wrong. I beat the entire game in 2 days, in about 10 hours. If you average it out, that means each scenario lasted 30-130 minutes, and some of them just were too easy or boring.

The game overall is good, but it is not great.

Chris, you mention 1602 including the map editor in the original release! There you are mistaken, the original game did not have the editor included. The editor was included in the expansion to the game! The original game did not have the number of Campaigns and scenarios you are familiar with either. Nor was it bug free, there were patches for it as well. The original 1602 was not released in the US! The version that was released for sale in the US was after patches, after expansion and part of the scenarios included in the expansion were compilations of player made scenarios that Sunflowers added to the release. So yes the 1701 International release could have waited until the expansion was released, until all patches had been made just as it was with 1602 and we internationals could have been saying "Why do we have to wait so long on the game?". No, I prefer not waiting that long to have the game!

Have you ever asked for help in this board? NO!

Maybe you open a thread to adress your problem and you will surely helped to solve your problem...

For a start, you could try to set AA and AF to application controlled and see if that helps :go:
