Where can I get a copy of the English version of this game without having to deal with a used Ebay purchase?
Personally I wish there were somewhere to download this game.
I onced owned it, but that was a long time ago and I've lost the Cd since.

Welcome to the forum, ChrisDoucette! :halloha:

I believe if you plan to have it again, you will have to deal with a used eBay purchase. It is not being marketed in the US anymore and I don't think the UK version is being marketed anymore either. The German version is still on the market in Germany as far as I know.

Even a Germany copy sounds nice. Just a rip of a CD would due though. If they arn't marketing it, then whats the harm?

They haven't made it freeware, it would be illegal, that is the harm.

They should make it freeware cause it doesn't appear as though they will ever market it here again.

The previous one man campaign to make it freeware (http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?t=3787)!

Discussion about getting cracked games is not supported in this forum :go:

What I am wondering: If you do not consider a "used" game worth of your ownership, then why would you be satisfied whith a cracked one :nono: :nono: :nono:

Doesn´t make sense to me :nono:

BTW: the game is still sold very good in Germany..so why make it freeware ..if you want an inernational copy you can still get it, if you want (even if it is used )

Oh, you know what.. you are right. Paying $18 for a used version of the $9.99 re-release version that came in a single CD case. Infact, it being used must double the value, everyone wants to buy cloudy scratched CDs. Oh, but I can have the original box released for $40 from Bob the scammer. No thanks, I'm pissed at Sunflower. With the release of 1701 AD, it is common sense to re-release 1602. Sunflower has failed yet again. They failed with the buggy, multiplayerless 1503 that also had no map editor, and now they fail to keep 1602 alive in anywhere but Germany. I guess Germany is the only important place in the world, I mean they only care about America's pocketbook, not their satisfaction. That is why the 1503 English version was cheesy and the German one cooler. Good job!

Do you think you'll get a real answer from one of us with such an opinion? :nono:
1602 is about 9 years old, which game is still for sale after such a long time?

Are these freeware?
If not, then why would you think that 1602 should be?

BTW - I saw some 1602's on eBay @ less than $8.00!

You can defend them all you want but it doesn't mean you are right.
If the game is not for free, then it needs to continue to be marketed, and not just in Germany. Otherwise it should just be declared abandon-ware.
Now, what they could have done is just included 1602 AD with 1701. Would have been cheaper and re-distributed the game. Of course, those you would have me believe are thoughtful, really just are not. I see more effort into Germany and Germany alone. Sure, I'll have to buy a copy from someone. I don't want used though, so I'll be spending $24 for the single CD case version that sold for $10 in the retail store, but it is not opened.. sealed. I wanted to play this again so me and my friend Rob could do multi-player. Well, I have to pay $24, but I'm looking at it with a positive attitude now. *Edit by mod

You would settle for a rip from a used game, but don't want to purchase a used game! :nono:

Oh, but you are?

Sunflowers own the rights to the game and has no obligation whatsoever. It was their money they game was created with and they are free to choose what to do with it. Maybe the input for marketing it again in the US is not worth it.
I also *think* it was primarily developed for the German market. And it is still selling in Germany, although I don't know if it's really earning any profits worth mentioning.

Now, what they could have done is just included 1602 AD with 1701. Would have been cheaper and re-distributed the game.

Why should they? 1701 is a totally different game. Apart from that that's pretty much the same as asking them for a free copy.

Sunflowers IS a German company and as far as I know (though I may be wrong) their biggest market is still Germany. Of course they put the biggest effort into their biggest market!

Sure, I'll have to buy a copy from someone.

Maybe the true "problem" is that you'll have to buy a copy to begin with? That 1602 is not popular enough to find it on any file-sharing sites?
Just in case you don't know: Making a computer game costs money. A lot of it too. If the players don't pay for the game but get it through "other means", companies will not be able to develop new games.

It is really $12 now, because I'm going to rip the CD and send Rob a copy too.

Oh, and your friend Rob has also had a legal copy of the game and he has also lost it, right? I hope you are aware of the fact that you are writing this in the forum of the PUBLISHER of the game...

--------

Of course it is annoying that you have a hard time finding the game, or at least have a hard time getting an unused copy. Of course it's also annoying that you'll have to pay a lot more than the game should sell for, but for that you can't only blame the company who made the game. I can assure you that there are a ton of things I used to buy frequently in the USA which I can't buy here, simply because they don't produce them for the German market - although they are global players. I can also assure you that there are a LOT of things I'd really like to buy if they were not twice as much (or even more) expensive than they were in the USA. But there is no use whining about it. You just have to figure out if you want something badly enough to pay for it or not. And with a computer game at least it is a one-time purchase and you should be fine with it for many many years. Surely 25 bucks are not too much of an evil for a game that will give you a lot hours of fun.

Lets discuss that further when Windows 95, 98 and ME become Freeware or OpenSource.

And Abandonware is not Freeware.

I am really fed up with this kind of discussion, and I am not willing to give you forum space for that. Use ebay, amazon or any other seller who is willing to sell you the game.

Concluded - End of Thread.
Agreed.
