I do see a problem. For some reason your cable/wireless/DSL modem is taking priority over your sound chip. So, first try unhooking the modem and see if that solves it (withe the modem disconnected see if the sound works).

Sound might be muted. Open Control Panel (in classic view) and open sound and make sure no "Mute" box is checked. If so, uncheck any and Apply, then Close.

You can also try updating yoru sound drivers to see if that helps.

Next (if still nothing) go into Device Managr and see if it's actually in there (no yellow or red marks nest to sound). If so, use the fix option and see if that helps. To get to Device Manager:

1. Open Control Panel (in Classic View) and open System
2. Click on Hardware tab, then click Device Manager button
3. Locate Sound... Click the "+" next to it and find your Realtek AC97 Aucio. If error or not there, you need to install, activate, or update.

Hope one these does it. If not PM me and we'll address outside of threads.

Sincerely,
Phil

What Phil explained already very clearly: somehow your AC'97 soundcard is not the default sound playback. Where you might be able to change that is Control Panel -> Sound and then the 'Audio' tab. There you can select the standard device for playing audio. Perhaps your problem can be solved there.

Yes, one has to also install the drivers again when one upgrades. So, glad it was that simple. We're here if you need us.
