How to stimulate aristocrat population growth

Hi I'm a newbie too:
1) I have a settlement with 1900 inhabs, and 400 of them are aristo's how do I stimulate growth?
2) How do you make $$? I can't seem to find the right balance.

ahmm i'm not sure wut u mean by stimulating growth

assuming all your other inhabitants are merchants and have the goods and services required for the upgrade to aristocrats you need to check their "mood" click on a merchant house and see if their mod is bright green or light green or yellow... it has to be bright green for people to evolve to the next social class so lower ur taxes for merchants until it does (using the slider when looking at a merchant house)

if everything is fine and still no upgrades are seen u must make sure u have building materials (tools, bricks, marble and i'm not sure if wood is required for aristo's)

not sure if there is anything else but goods/services/taxes and building supplied need to be "favourable"

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed. I'll try it out now. The only thing is I'm not sure I can afford to lower my taxe rate too much, I'm really living on the edge in this settlement. gW

If you can lower it just long enough to get a few more Aristocrats, your income will be higher once you raise it back up!

If you've got all the required goods for advancement to aristocrats, turn on the "withold building materials" option at a marketplace.

Soon after all the required goods are in circulation, the merchants will want to upgrade to aristocrats, and you'll see yellow arrows above most (or all) of the houses. Then you can manually click on each house and press the "U" key to upgrade it. Systematically go through each house like this and you'll upgrade all your houses in a fraction of the time it takes for them to do it automatically. Then you can crank up the taxes again :go:
