'ello all...

I've enjoyed playing and experimenting with Anno 1701 for a few weeks now and feel fairly comfortable with the game having won independence from the Queen through naval might and through tribute. But I seem to **** at warfare in a continous game with 90% island domination as a win factor with a full compliment of mixed eash/normal AI players. Is there a thead I'm missing about the best way to take over a supply island and a main island? :confused:

My hat's off to everyone that's posted great advise, screenshots, layouts and the works. :go:

1. Maritime phase –
-> Attain naval supremacy
-> completely destroy the AIs fleet
-> also destroy AIs shipyards (and place afterwards 2-3 ships in front of it )

2. Bridgehead phase –
-> place a warehouse on the Ais main island
-> immediately fill it with building material (ideal way also with cannons if the cannon tower is already investigated)
-> immediately build cannon towers which start to attack the AI troops ( under protection of your navy of course )
-> set building material on purchase , or install a trading route for it

3. Conquest phase - only recrute militias* on the AI island
-> 5-6 militias are enough for a AI-tower guarding a market house
-> Take over one warehouse after another
-> secure them by towers
-> In a relatively short time the computer player gives up before you conquer the whole island and he disappears from the map.

Advantages:
Clear. Fast. Safe. You keep everything under control.
In addition th hat: If the AI is able to use Tetonkas lightnings it also destroys the AI-island :biggrin:

Many thanks Frieden! Yes, militia is the correct translation.

Q: If you use a unit (ex. pikeman) to capture a white flagged surrendering building how do you get the unit back out once they capture the building?

Conquering an island seems to get really tricky when there are multiple beachheads or multiple towncenters. Are the objectives only Marketplaces and Warehouses :confused:
