Hi,
I have been experienceing graphic problems with anno 1701 with windows vista. The water color changes from blue to green contuiously and its very annoying, so annoying its almost unpalyable. I have updated to patch 1.01 but that doesn't fix it. I adjust the graphic setting but to no effect. It can't be my PC as I have AMD 3800, Nvidia 7600 GT, 1.5 GB DDR RAM. Does anyone else have this problem under vista or is it a game bug?
Welcome to the forum, Scorcher! :halloha:
The game was not designed to be run on Vista, You will notice that Vista is not listed on the box. However there are some people that have been able to improve the performance they were getting, not to the performance level as on XP but playable. You can perform a search and possibly find the solutions that worked for them. I will try to locate them as well, but it may be a bit before I am able to search.

Not a game bug at all. It is a Vista bug. The game's not (nor ever will be, TMK) optimizaed for and with Vista and this is a known issue. Vista has known issues with graphics even if you have the proper drivers desgned for your card to work with Vista.
Rnett put up a post in this forum somewhere with a link about the blue and green issues, but you'll have to do a search via viewing his profile and all his posts to find it. It comes down to not only in-game video but also your system video settings needing to be adjusted, if you even have approved drivers. If you'd attach your DxDiag, we can see if they might be anything else as well. If not aware of how to do this, go up to the first post of my Sticky in regard to probelms with the game. Good Luck!
Sincerely,
Phil
PS: See Dobber was quicker than me this time.
Welcome Scorcher :halloha:
You have to turn off all graphic settings.
And the water will be blue again:biggrin:
Normally it should help, when you only switch off the water effects :go:
If this helps nothing, do Thunnes proposal.

The problem was solved by updating my graphic driver to the latest version. So I guess it was the driver after all and not vista. Thanks for your help.

Found it.
For Nvidia > 100.65 for Vista... (7950 GT Extreme).
In the in-game-options I didn't switch off anything.
Games runs just fine!
Vista Aero is still on too ;)
Have now a 22" screen (Samsung 225BW)...

I'm not using Vista and don't ever plan to but while 'surfing' the net I noticed that 'everybody', (ATI, Nvida, Microsoft, etc.), are all pumping out their latest drivers as fast as they can for Vista users. I suggest you check on a weekly basis for anything new.
(NOTE: Any new PC I will buy in the future will be re-formated and Win XP installed instead of Vista. But that's just me).

Glad you got it working and so well. It does help to know which card too as that dictates the proper drivers (and if I would have been here sooner I could have linked you to them). At the same time though Vista is still far from being bug free and I personally won't have it even after the bugs are all worked out and it made known, but that's just me. Happy Gaming!!!

Download the beta driver(number 101.41).
There is no problem with the water.

Phil,
I switch from XP Pro to Vista and back again ;)
Not in a dual boot config., just on twe different harddisks.
I switch cables: power and ide.
Sorry to be O.T. ;)
Be sure: XP is my "prime" O. S. ;)

Thunnes:
:bash: As I've noted more than often here and other forums. Beta drivers are used at one's own risk. If you use them, that is fine, but do not note or link them where I'm helping. If they work for you, great! However, they are not approved and thus can be flawed. As I noted, I've experimented with them in the past and it costed me dearly. It's the same effect as trying to run a Windows game on a Mac. If you can get it to work, that is fine, but it is not supported, suggested, or to be advised/noted.
Theokus:
 Clear (now)! You're better off and smarter than most to do it in such way Your situation is thus not standard, so whatever it takes to make it work for you is great. Just not suggested nor will many do this. Vista has a long way to go to be ready and supported for games it was not designed for. So, glad you noted the details and Enjoy!!!
Sincerely,
Phil
Phil:
I have helped many people with the same problem by this driver.
I've installed the Vista driver of guru3D.com.
I want to use both of my 7950GX2 cards.
And now it's your turn.
I never wrote in this thread again.
You can do it:gogo:

Let us also keep it in context, shall we?! I've had others (on other forums) using those exact drivers and other games don't work well with them. For Anno 1701, maybe, but not other games. If Anno is all you play, you can get by with it, but others don't and those drivers are not a "cure all" for every game, which is why beta drivers are not suggested.
Sincerely,
Phil
I play Need for Speed und Counter Strike as well, but I never had problems or a BSOD(blue screen of death) at playing.
