Find the treasure Message "widen your area of influence"

I was trying to get to the treasure on some island. The Free Trader asked me to deliver it to him. I was not settled on the island yet and could not figure out, how to get to that thing. Going over it with the mouse, a message popped up saying "widen your area of influence to retrieve the treasure" (or something like that).
What do they mean with that? Opening a warehouse on this island or what else?

Yes open a warehouse and your worker will go and get the treasure.

It means you have to build a warehouse on that island close by to cover the treasure with its area of influence... if its not possible built an extra marketplace ... then a guy walks out and piks up the treasure and brings it to the warehouse and u can load it onto ur ship.... i think its really stupid that u have to settle on an island to get the treasure... i think an explorer ship needs to have an explorer on it that will disembark and get the treasure onto the ship !

p.s. i once had a problem where the trader requested a treasure from an island belodning to an AI and it was in an area of influence of the AI's warehouse so I couldnt settle/reach it... wtf am i supposed to do then?

That is how I usually deal with it. 99% of the time I would have to go to war with the AI to get the treasure and nab the pittance (compared to the cost of war), so I don't bother with those. I have only managed to get the treasure twice. Once, it was on an uncontrolled grain only tiny island (which in retrospect was really not worth it). And the second time the treasure was on an island I controled, but had not secured the beachheads yet. I was able to get it with a single marketplace. I wish they would either remove that quest completly, or have it show up on an uncontrolled island, not one already settled.

FYI, FT quests are randomized, if you have a save file from a few min before you got the quest, a reload might give you a different quest. Otherwise, just forget he even asked.
