View Full Version : Limited .bmp editing possibilities?
Good day, lords.
I edited Baltic cavalryman and Lithuanian Noble (from Baggy's mod) unit avatars (.bmp). Followed instructions how to apply edited avatars, but they didn't change in the game.
Baggy and I guess it could have happened because of color coding or something like that (dependent colors on shields, saddles and armor), because I have had changed round shields to Lithuanian/Prussian shields, also edited helmets, spears and armor. All colors were taken from original avatars. It seems .bmp editing is limited, but I haven't noticed this warning in Forum. What do you think?

Try reconstructing what went wrong.
So first thing to try:
Open the original .bmp, don't modify it, and save it using your program. Then see wether KoH still loads that file nicely.
Second thing to try:
Open the original .bmp and place a few destinctively colored pixel in one corner. Then see wether KoH loads that file nicely.
* etc. etc. Try to find out what exactly KoH is compaining about. Then we can perhaps find a solution to the problem.

We thought problem was in too changed details. So I took an original avatar, drew red horns on the helmet to check it the game would apply it. It didn't.
Of course we'll try to find a problem and I hope the game will accept new avatars.
Btw, maybe I should show how much these avatars are edited?
And has anyone tried to edit an avatar much? Not only attaching a small sign or changing some colors in clothes (like Elvain's)

I succesfully created a new unit avatar bmp for Town Guards, so it should be possible, no matter how much you changed. Cosmetic issue is that the edited file has to be flipped vertically.

Flipped vertically?
.BMP files are, though, but in order to have Knights of Honor (henceforth: KoH) display edited .BMP files properly, you need to rotate the file (after editing) for 180 degrees and then flip it horizontally (use a free editor like Irfanview.
So, after rotating I have to flip vertically or horizontally?

And btw, I'd like to see how your drawn Town Guards look like now...

Perhaps check if the Baltic cavalryman and Lithuanian Noble .UNIT files are pointing to the files you edited - probably, they're pointing to the unit they were based on.
Which sentence in .UNIT file points to the image (avatar)?
I have to ask a favour. Could you write the whole sequence of actions how to apply an edited avatar? If this won't bother you much.
Furthermore, I've noticed that Elvain's edited unit avatar (Assassin) isn't changed in the game as well.

\images\units\Icons\battle_view\big_size\ Castle_Guard.bmp and also in \middle_size and \small_size . That was all, regarding avatars. I said it wrong: avatars are not pointed to by the .UNIT file; the .UNIT file only points to the animation files and the battle meter image. I hope this helps - it should really work.
