Hello and help?

First of all, hello. As you will probably tell from this post I'm new to the Anno series. I played a lot of sims up until a few years ago (mostly Settlers, Civ, SimCity, C&C, Starcraft etc.) more recently I got into Panzers a bit but Anno has really swung me back into it. It's visually impressive (makes the hundreds I spent on my new computer worthwhile :)) and the economics seems reasonably complicated and more integral to the game than in most RTS stuff I've played previously.

My real problem is with some of the free trader assignments. Particularly when he asks me to deliver, say 7t of whale oil. I turned up at his harbour with the whale oil and plenty of time remaining but I couldn't work out how to complete the assignment. Previously I had just opened the assingment window, picked the reward option, and completed but this time I couldn't select the options. Any ideas what I did wrong?

First: Anno ist not a RTS :nono: it's a much better game :biggrin: :silly:

To your problem:
Did the free trader appear, when you sailed to his warehouse?
Normally his portrait appears in the upper right corner.
Then you have to klick on the green button.


And you really had oil on your ship? Not something else? :angel: Please don't beat :angel:

There was a smiliar problem in this forum some weeks (months :scratch: ) ago. Maybe i can find the solution, because there were pictures.

I could think of two problems:

You delivered a wrong good

or

you do not have a free slot in your ship to get the reward.....

You know I was quite convinced I was right but it was lamp oil all the time! Oops. Thanks for the answers, I shall endeavour to be less stupid next time.

Point taken on the RTS/Sim thing. Its a good game however, you classify it. Anyway, I shall get back to it and stop asking embarassingly silly questions.

i did have the trader ask me for whale oil before and he wanted the raw whale oil from the whaler not the final lamp oil, and other times he wants the lamp oil :)

Don't feel bad. I did the same thing (repeatedly :bash: ) when I started playing. I would see oil and conclude the wrong thing. The two that gave me the most grief were whale oil (not called blubber or fat in the game) vs lamp oil, and tobacco vs tobacco products. So now when I see oil or tobacco I double check.

Hopefully it will be fixed in the patch, but you also have to be carefull when the request is via a minor faction. Some ask for Alcohol at the top, but in the description it indicates they actually want Tobacco Products. And again the same problem with them wanting cloth, but really wanting wool.

It's easy to mis-read what they want when your stressing trying to get a lot of others things done at the same time. Just slow down a little and/or double read the quests.
