ParaWorld’s music makers, Genuin, received the G.A.N.G. Award in San Francisco for music in a computer game.
The ParaWorld game was scored by the Leipzig production company, Genuin, and performed by the Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra. The similar use of computer game music using a “genuine” symphony orchestra represents yet another real innovation in the industry for Germany.
Now the company’s gamble has paid off: in early March, Genuin received an international music award from G.A.N.G. (Game Audio Network Guild) for the best instrumental music track.
"This is the first time a German title has received an accolade in this category. We are really thrilled!” said Alfredo Lasheras Hakobian, sound engineer and one of Genuin’s directors. Pierre Langer, director and composer with the Mainz music creators, Dynamedion, was also very pleased that Genuin’s title had scooped the award from around 100 entries in the face of strong competition from titles such as “Star Trek: Legacy”.
"Germany has done a great deal in terms of music production, and we can certainly compete on an international level", says Langer confidently: “Recording with orchestras in particular is so easy to do." Germany’s computer games industry may now follow an upward trend, not least owing to the growing interest in quality and top-class music production.
We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners!
