HI, I just bought 1701 and i`m ready to play, everything installed perfectly, but when i want to start the game i must enter a serial number. I tried everything, with- and without capitals, with bars in between, with spaces in between, but i keep getting the same answer!!! How do i get in to the game? Greetz Stylz:angry:

Are you sure you entered the number correctly..sometimes people mistake O and 0 or V and Y or some other letters....

and you should use capitals

Use capitals and the dash "-" key. Don't mix up S from 5 and other characters.

Get you a magnifying glass so you can take a real close look at the characters, there are a lot that can be confused, "8", "3" & "B"; "U", "V" & "Y"; "O", "D", "Q" & "0"; "A" & "4"; "1" & "I"; "2" & "Z".

i have the same problem :
I BOUGHT THE DOWNLOAD VERSION AT GAMERGATE AND INSTALLED IT.
DURING THE ISTALLATION IT ASKED THE SERIAL NUMBER AND IT WORKED.

NOW I AM TRYING TO START THE GAME AND IT ASKS ( FOR SECURITY QUEST ) THE SERIAL NUMBER AGAIN , BUT EACH TIME I ENTER IT - IT SAYS INVALID SERIAL NUMBER !!!!!

sorry for big letters but the serial number has to be enterd in big letters too ......

Welcome to the forum, submarino! :halloha:

Sorry to hear of your problem, but the download version uses a different serial number verification system that has been adapted to their system, you will have to get assistance with it from Gamersgate support!

as i wrote :
THE SERIAL NUMBER WAS ACCEPTED !!!

Just to start the game it is aking this again .....

This is not a gamersgate problem, because it all installed and verified perfectly ( the serial number was OK !! ).
Just when i start the game : it asks again and does NOT accept the same number

It is a Gamersgate problem, because they adapted the serial number process for their game delivery system, that changed the files, we do not know what those changes are!

Have you asked them for help? Have they told you it is not their problem? Or are you making an assumption?

If it is not something of their doing then it is a problem with the Tages online serial authorization process, which still has to do with the adaptation for the download process.

do you know of another place to buy a download version of the english or italian version of 1701 ??
--
just an idea ....
i use a computer with 2 hard drives ( C, D ) and had to use the D for enough space

can this be a reason for the problem ?

With Direct2Drive, I had a similar problem, they had their "own" serial naumber which had to be entered separately from any Aspyr or Sunflowers number.

I don't know, I have never bought a download version of a game! I just went to Gamersgate to see what I could find there for you! I can understand your reluctance to seek help there, I could find no technical support section. I could neither find anyway of contacting them for help either. But then I am not a member, so those areas might be hidden from me!

As to installation support, I have looked in both manuals I have at the technical support sections, and in both of them they list the distributor as the place to seek help with installation problems. It seems as though something went wrong with your installation. Perhaps you could try to reinstall it from Gamersgate, you do have that right, don't you?

I am of course assuming you installed the Gamersgate launcher and you went to your My games section and got your serial key and you are trying to start the game through the launcher.

It's a known fact, if you buy via electronic transfer you do so at your own risk as there will be no support from the owners (or forums), but only from where you bought. Versions are all modified to allow for no CD/DVD, so they have been "hacked" to do this and thus all updates will only work if provided by them as well. We can't help you more than we have now and why we only know what to do with hard copies of the game.

Sincerely,
Phil

no answer from support of gamersgate ....

yes, they give the right to install again - but how can it solve the problem - the serial number WAS accepted during installation -

just the same serial number does not work when i start the program and it asks this again ....

I wish I could tell you I'm surprised, but you can guess that I'm not. You'll just have to wait from their feedback is all I can say.

Sincerely,
Phil

This is why I don't buy downloads...:nono:

submarino
01-05-2007, 21:27
why are you not surprised - what is the sense of buying games in download version
if you wait for their support longer than for the mailman to deliver the pysical CD/DVD ?

you had any experience with gamersgate already ?

Dobber

Just a thought, does it have spaces or dashes between any characters?
And are you entering them when you enter it?

submarino

dashes
--
i also tried with spaces and without spaces -
i tried the 5times5 code they give and i also tried the 8times 5 code and i tried the long code ( both together ) with spaces, with dashes, without ...
checked for spelling errors...

i cant think of anything more ...

neither gamersgate nor sunflower is responding anything to my question ....

Sunflowers won't most likely and the reason being you did not buy from them but the online version. As I stated before, no CD/DVD version are "hacks" from the origianls and are the sole responsibility of the one you got it from. This is exactly why I won't buy via electronic transfer. Better to wait and get the support needed (if needed), than be "hung out to dry" if you have problems. I'll take waiting for a hard copy any day myself. Like I said earlier, at one's own risk.

None of us work for either, BTW. We are just unpaid volunteers.

Sincerely,
Phil
