Hello there
I'm experiencing a strange problem. I installed the game problemlessly but when I tried to start it I got the following "error"/message:

"Conflict: a hook process was found. Please deactivate all Antivirus and Anti-Trojan programs and debuggers."

And that's all! I cant continue...There's just an OK button...
...oh I forgot to mention that I dont use any antivirus/trojan/spam programs which I could deactivate ... so if anybody has any idea how to run my game PLEASE tell me.

Welcome! I see a couple of things right off, but these alone might not help. You could stand better video drivers to start with. So, go up and read my nVidia Sticky and download and install the 91.47 version you'll find a link to in there.

Next, it looks to me like you have a virtual drive program installed. Most likely Daemon Tools or some version of Alcohol, but could be many others. So, you need to disable or uninstall that.

Most hooks are caused by conflicts with things running in the background (as one example noted just above). So, if you'd provide your list of background programs we can see what else might be the cause if not the above, but those should be done as well. If not sure how to provide your list, go up to my Sticky about probelms with the game and follow the second set of instrucictions in the opening post. Do the drivers first, then the rest in order and we'll be waiting for your list. Good Luck!

Sincerely,
Phil

I've installed the drivers and uninstalled the daemon tool but unfortunately these actions didnt help.

This is the screenshot of the background processes running on my PC:

Install patch 1.05 and the problem will be fixed and you can play the game! :go:

Phil Walker

They might not have been an obvious help, but will be once done. As to your background programs, not too bad, but too many none the less. You only need one of them (as I don't see your Anti-Virus or Firewall, so guessing a "freebie" or Windows version). That being NvCpl. So, run the program again, uncheck all the rest, click Apply, click Close. Close all windows save the pop-up that appeared after closing msconfig, then click the Restart button on that window. You will reboot. Upon reboot and getting back on your account, put a check in the Do Not show me this again box, then click the OK button. This will help with the system and we'll hope resolve your game issue as well.

Since you did not note whether you patched or not, you need to do that as well. Then try the game Good Luck!

Sincerely,
Phil

PS: Also see Dobber noted patching, but we differ in I won't have the 1.05 versioon myself.

Some people think the patch made the game to hard and won't patch their games. :go:

No argument as many think this. Yet, I also noted patching here. Just a different version (1.03) instead of the one you noted in my other posts, but not in the one you referred to in this thread.

I've disabled all other applications except NvCpl but unfortunately it didn't change the situation in any way. I've also installed 1.03 and guess what ... sill nothing :( But finally I got the 1.05 patch and installed it...AND THE GAME STARTED! :D

Thanks a lot for the help. I was fascinated how fast and clear answers you gave me. You just can't imagine how grateful I am. :)

Sincerely,
Dimityr Mitev

P.S. Since I'm new to the game do you think that it would be more difficult for me to learn how to play at 1.05 rather than at 1.00 or 1.03? (I'm asking because of what Dobber said Some people think the patch made the game to hard and won't patch their games.

Glad to hear and that you go it working. We do try to put things in simple terms so all can understand us, but we are not always successful. To answer your question about what Dobber said, No! Patches don't make things more difficult (or easy). The are "fixes" to make the game run better. The 1.05 patch made it where the copy-protection is now bypassed and you no longer need the CD compared to the 1.03 version (that I'm using). There is no official 1.05 patch for the USA English language and I only install version that match in language and country is why I don't and won't have it (yet). Enjoy and Happy Gaming!!!

There is no real reason not to install the English UK patch over the US game...I've logged over a 100 hours using the patch on my US version and it works perfectly. Obviously Black Sea thinks so too as I'm sure they would have released a patch by now if it was a problem.

Phil Walker

I have one of the original games and mine would not allow it to be installed. I'm sure as hell not going to modify what works perfectly for me, so just leave it be.

I'm more than sick and tired of repeating myself about this. I have no intention of installing said patch unless an official US version come out and if that means never, then so be it!!!

I am here to help and am not asking for nor want any either as mine works and perfectly. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Phil, there is no need for you to have to repeat yourself about it. But in order to prevent having to do so, you will need to discontinue your advice to people concerning the patch 1.05. As long as you are campaigning against using the UK patch on the US version, you will continue to receive comments and feel the need to keep defending your position.

As I have stated before I installed the UK patch on my US version and it works with no problems, I will continue to recommend people use the UK patch. I am sorry the patch would not work on your version, but there is no need for you to sing doom to others. Most of them are only concerned that it will work with their's and won't care that it doesn't on someone elses.

Did you not see the post just before mine and where it was (after my post)?! Scott said, there is no reason did he not?! For me there is a reason, and the only one that counts. So, there is at least one good reason, isn't there?! When insisted, am I to let it go unanswered (or should I be here helping to have to have it thrown in my face all the time)?!

I've also not given any advice to those who try it, save to say if it doesn't work, don't as I had the same problem. Other than that, I've made no comment other than to patch, not to which version. As we both know I'm to be taken literally at all times and I don't say anything just for the sake of saying it, but to say I've done something I haven't is also to be addressed in such a way.

Phil Walker

You did miss the key word in my quote Dobber. That being, "myself". There is also a difference between asking why and making rash statements as we both know I have a reason. You and I read all the tech threads, but those who don't should not make judgemental comments without knowing all the facts either. I'm now trying to stop a dead horse with my remark to Scott, but you must not know how I handle or address things by your remakrs. My noting being tired of repeating should note it to all I've said it before and if they'd bother to read before posting, it did not need to be said. I rest my case (I hope), so we may get back to topic if more needs to be addressed.

Sincerely,
Phil
