Just curious,
how often do Medieval Demonstrations happen in your Countries?.

In Australia we have what is called the

"Australian Medieval Society"

Which travels around the country doing tournements and demonstrating the way things happenened in Medieval life, they do this every couple of months or so.
They dress up in armor and have mock battles and show other stuff.

I know it may seem strange that Aussies do this, :silly:
but remember that the majority of Australia's population come from Europe.
We have even had a couple of millionaires build a couple small castles over here.

So how often,or do they still happen in Europe?.
Just curious  :D

I don't know how often those things happen in other countries...

but some of my friends do this.. they organize battles, some for public, some "private" just for friends who meet at some castle ruin and have few battles of 20-50 vs. 20-50 in average once in 3 weeks (during whole year, in summer it's almost every weekend)
But those my friends are not professionals, there are some "sword groups" (probably a bad translation, sorry) participating on and organizing some fests in old towns, castles etc. where are people in costumes, medieval market, medieval smiths etc.

I guess that every weekend here in Czech republic you can see at least 10 actions like this(now I mean those public actions for audience) all around the country, esecially during summer. In winter it's worse, but some people do it as well

But for example here in Prague you can see "medieval" smith every day in the Old Town square :D

PS: It's great that Oz's do such things lso. Does anybody do also "Aborigine demonstrations"?

You can usually see some sort of Aboriginal demonstration at most major public events and shopping centres, some groups travel the country, and even a Rock & Roll band that mixes traditional instruments and modern instruments{quite good too},just can't remember their name-

I'm bad with band names, just like the tunes. :D

And groups perform for tourists

I would like to tour Europe oneday and see the old castles  :)

Well, here in Germany are many such things, especially in Bavaria, where I come from!
Knight's tourneys
"Ritteressen" (You eat in a big room in a castle and you may throw bones and so on behind you, just like the old knigts did :D)
Medieval theatre
And much more!

If you search for them you can find such events every week within a 100km from every place in germany.
I especially like the swordsmanship-sport-clubs. But of course you have to effort a usable weapon (you know these blunt swords that look sharp but can't hurt anyone if you don't poke him in the eyes?) and some time. But I plan to join one of them as soon as I have both of these resources...

When I went to Japan for holidays a few years ago,I purchased an authentic Samurai Daisho
{Katana-longsword,Wakizashi-shortsword}for a few thousand dollars.

but they are only for display, cost to much to use. :)

One makes sword for second and the second makes chainmail for the first. But god sword is about 5000 CZK what is about 180 EURO, persian bow made in Hungary(but not from original materials) 200-300 EURO, norman chainmail is about 100-150 EURO etc.
Except the bow everything is made from "original" materials.

I have heard oone story of czech "Romans" who were invited to Italy to some batle and Italian fencers were shocked of their metal armours, heavy wooden+metal shields etc. cause those Italians had it from plastics. :D

Yes, the prices are fairly accurate for good weapons/armor.
But you can buy the commonly used stuff a bit cheaper.

But there aren't enough weapon-smiths around here to have your sword self-made. But chain-armors or leather-armors really aren't hard to make.

If I'm ever to join a swordfight-club I'll surely search for one who uses the original books of medieval swords-masters. There are still swordsmanship-learning-books from about 1200 a.d. around and you can still use the described moves. Actually there are some really good ones in these books ;) . They really knew how to use swords back then :go: .

Cool,so all up, thats roughly about 1 k in Aussie dollars.

I might contact the A.M.S. just to see how much it would cost in Oz

But I would find it hard to find the time to take part in it.

You mean re-enactment? We got a few re-enactment groups in Holland. They are usually hired for on a castle museum or something.

Where i am from we don't have Medieval Demos because Europe took too long in coming to america, so we missed that wave of time period :nono: :silly: :p , but i don't know if there are mock battles of them in my area, just have not looked for them if there is one. Might be native American battle demostrations(hopefully) somewhere, but in America we are really big on Civil War demostrations at famous battle sites :hello: ...

Imitating whole BATTLES?? Can you tell me more about them?

Angryminer

Angryminer's guide to imitating battles:
1. Get as many people and armor/uniforms/weapons as you can.
2. Get the resources about the battle itself (which type of troops moved there, and there etc.)
3. Assign roles to your wannabe-soldiers.
4. Let them perform the moves of the real armies.

But I think those battles are rather poor, because you seldomly have more than 400 soldiers on the battlefield.
But yet the fight is cool. Be it Civil War or medieval.
