Just purchased game (after playing demo for about a week).
Very cool! :go:
Sorry I'm so late getting into it...
Into the scenarios right now, to get a handle on gameplay. The forums are great for learning more about that, by the way.
And I'm patched to 1.01US (even though I'm in Canada  )

First post question:
What would the most "common" game settings/victory conditions be to actually win/end a game once I get into "continuous play"?

Feel free to point to another thread if this is already covered.

One of the nice things about the game is the variety of victory conditions. I would suggest looking at the style of play to want to pursue for that game.

My first game I only set "colonial goods collected" and lost, as the AI reached the goal first.
My second game I only set "free trader quests" and easily won as the AI does not pursue those.

Third game, I wanted to see how hard it was to obtain independence, but didn't want to get short changed for my efforts. So I selected "free trader quests" and "achieve independence" and clicked "all victory options".

Playing those three gave me a good idea of the kind of victory settings that I could select for my style of play, have victory attainable, and have reaching those goals be a challenge.

Now, if I want to improve on weak points in my play, I choose the setting that best challenge that weakness.

I had previously played 1602 A.D., so I started my continuous play at normal level instead of easy. If you don't have that experience, I would certainly suggest starting at the easy level, but I don't know how aggressive the AI pursues colonial goods on easy.

In addition to the excellent thread link noted in Rnett's post..

Thanks for the welcome and the advice.
1701 is my first taste of the game.

Indeed I was looking for victory conditions. I had read the sticky threads about getting started and have advanced nicely in a couple of games. Just wanted to know which victories to pursue. That last thread is a keeper! I'll save it.
Thanks again.
